Think again.

Van Jefferson is a deep threat. Check out this breakdown of his big catch last Sunday.
Impressive how quickly he closed on Vernon Hargreaves (who, interestingly, was released this week) and then flew by Hargreaves and Lonnie Johnson (both DBs are 4.5 guys) to make the catch.

Jefferson never ran a 40 during his pre-draft offseason, but he was reportedly among the fastest guys at the Senior Bowl.

So... we don't need MeJax, and we can manage without Tutu. Mr. Jefferson can take the top off the defense.

(and maybe Mr. Harris will surprise us there too!)

Yeah I was yelling that all offseason to anyone who'd listen lol. All though Djax is a bit more sharp on his change of directions probably but we do not lack speed in our WR room. And like I mentioned in the Harris is a WR thread I'd be fine with just giving him DJ's snaps now. With his speed and length Stafford could just lob shit all day to him running straight down the field.

And somehow Kupp also gets open deep all the time. As if teams wouldn't know to try to cover this guy by now?

I couldn’t agree with you more, Avenger.

Plus, looking down the road, I suspect that Stafford is gonna enjoy throwing to the bigger receivers Skowronek and Harris. They both have the catch radius of a helicopter.

DJ and his diva attitude will NOT be missed.

And Kupp has a knack for turning mid-range pass plays into long pass plays. I call that a deep threat.
The Rams sure do.. "explosive plays" are the new name of the game. I love that Kupp almost never goes down on first contact. He's so good at setting up that first potential tackler, then making them miss.

I mean, come on, D Jax was (is) the very definition of a deep threat but that’s no knock on Jefferson who is a very good all round WR who is going from strength to strength. I am worried about the lack of deep threat but will wait and see

Not among the fastest, he clocked the fastest top MPH at the senior bowl. So that shows his straight line long speed. Also remember we should see Jacob Harris integrated in more and more as the season progresses and he should be able to win deep too. Very excited to see him get on the field.

I’m not counting on Harris for anything but special teams and garbage time.
For all the heat people direct at Tutu, he was much more effective in preseason. Wasn’t even close.

Preseason dont mean shit man. Not really. Tutu looked pretty decent running routes and getting separation, but how many preseason passes did Harris get from Stafford? How many plays was he on the field with Kupp and Woods? Point is there's a much clearer path for him to see the field now with Tutu and Djax gone, and he'll have Stafford throwing him the ball not Bryce Perkins. Will he start making big plays for us down the stretch this year? Who knows, but he has the capability.

Worth mentioning further.... he's better at that than ANY OTHER WR I can even think of.

He's special. Like Ramsey and Donald and Stafford and Miller, Kupp is a superstar at the top of the game at what he does.

Sure we've got some super stars... but
when you add dudes like Floyd, Henderson, Whitworth, Havenstein, Higbee, Darius Williams.... Akers.... Hekker.... and were coached by McVay and have Les working the lines....

This team is a SB favorite for many reasons.

And they are still +700 in Biloxi to win it all.

All the things you say about Harris apply to Tutu, but he got hurt.

I’m just saying there’s a ton of hype on here about Harris with only hope and measurables to base it on… and people are dismissing Tutu, even though he hasn’t had a shot at WR either.

Thats fair but Harris has an NFL body and Tutu does not. Tutu got hurt barely playing on special teams and is out for the year... Harris is healthy and he's been on special teams every game. Did McVay come out and say Harris needs to show more urgency? No he said that about Tutu. I understand your point though and yes Tutu could still end up being the much better player.. we've seen nothing from either guy. But one got ridiculed by the coach a bit for lack of work ethic, and just injured himself for the year by falling to the ground. The other guy is built like a greek god, and was putting out highlight after highlight in training camp. By the end of the year I think it will be safe to say Harris had the bigger impact as a rookie. With Djax and Tutu both gone, hes definitely going to start seeing more snaps on offense.

Totally agree on the impact. Harris has been a plus on Special Teams.. Tutu was worthless.
I’m curious where their contributions stack up when rookie contracts end.

The most important thing about the deep threat is the offensive line. Currently, they have done much better than expected giving Stafford time to throw longer developing plays.

As far as replacing DJ and Tutu I believe Harris needs a little more time to develop. Looks like Benny Skow is the next man up. He may be able to get some deeper passes using his height and physicality over defensive backs.

Jefferson has shown some ability to get deep. Kupp and Woods can get deep now and then. None of them have the DJ deep threat ability. The thing is the Rams haven't been playing DJ so maybe it doesn't matter. I would prefer that he wanted to stay a Ram.

Skowronek and Harris are volunteers................DJ was a hostage. Mike Tomlin said it best "I'll take volunteers over hostages anytime"

I think Kupp gets open by running incredible routes and good moves more so than just blazing speed, although it's not like Kupp is slow.

With Harris, he has a smoothness to him. You can see it.

There is also rawness to him. You can see that too.

Will it come together is the question. He has progressed pretty far already, IMO.

With Jefferson, he is playing more his natural speed now. I think last year he was just a tick slower with things… but now… he doesn‘t have to think as hard any longer. He is just out there playing and it looks real good.
