Rams D is on edge of Top 10 in points and yards.
#1 in Sacks
#5 in takeaways.

Also doing appreciably better than Chargers on most accounts.

I just hope in evaluating, fans take into account adjustments made by the league to Staley’s scheme, personnel changes, and natural regression.

I would remove Burgess from the underachieving list. He simply is not very good. He was jumped by a later round pick from his own draft year, and to date has not done anything on the field that is noteworthy. This season is an extension of that and the only reason he's on the depth chart is because they know his draft value will lead to him being claimed. That stuff matters, teams remember their draft grades, so holding on to him and using him as a depth option has been the approach.

Fuller I agree is playing good ball now. He was struggling early on, but I think much of the problem with the safeties was Morris-related. It was probably the way he was calling things and setting keys in his gameplan. But things have been a lot better of late. So for me Fuller is not a concern.

The other safety spot I'm gonna wait and see btw. Still think Rapp is miscast there but that spot has been better too so we'll see.

Williams is the guy who played at a top level last season but looks like ass this year. So internally I am sure the Rams are looking at how/why that has occurred. I refuse to even guess on this since I refuse to watch the NFL's shitty fucking All-22 this year. That I paid for. But anyway. Something's definitely up with him and it may be him who knows. I just hope there's a big effort among that staff to get him playing how he can play.

Re: Morris I think he's picking up this defense now. It can't be easy to swoop in here with a team who was the best in the league last season in a scheme you don't know and then have to design the gameplans and teach it to the players. So if we're lucky he keeps getting better or finds that balance that works with what he's comfortable calling.
Jourdan is the one who originally said that Morris was asked by for much more versatility from Williams and had him moving to star and slot. They needed someone to fill in for Hill and Ramsey when Ramsey moved outside. It seems DWill is mainly an outside corner.

Getting the ball out quick is the main scheme adjustment imo.

Morris being bent on preventing the big play may have some merit and it seems to be working but it allows the opponent to complete a lot of ten yard passes.

Dwill is a good corner and has lots of tape of that. Plus, he was starting to make ranking lists last year… a name for himself, etc.

The market always pays good CB’s. Dwill feels a little like when Janoris Jenkins hit FA. Even with the down year he is probably going to get an offer higher than we can match. But I wonder?

Pluses and minuses. I’m curious if that evolves as the season goes on with Rochell, hopefully, getting better.
Same with Williams.
Sounds like we’ll be seeing less blitzing, moving forward, wonder how that plays out.

I don’t think you can expect the same production when they are not being asked to do the same things from year to year. And DWill was injured so his progress will take a hit.

I don’t think it is far fetched to see someone make him a very nice offer this off season.

The Rams are bouncing Ramsey all over the place. Maybe its messing things up rather than helping.

As much as people griped about Hill, his versatility and tackling are sorely missed. JJs absence was a predictable loss. I know they can't keep everyone but one or the other would have been a big help. I don't like relying on rookie DBs. Hopefully Rochelle keeps progressing like you said, or we may see the Rams continue to struggle with tough teams.

Yeah. Hill played the Star better than anyone but Ramsey.. he was really versatile.
Good points.

Namely, these particular players:

Darious Williams
Terrell Burgess
Jordan Fuller

Question. Why are 3 such promising young players all experiencing distinctly less quality results on the field than expected based upon their 2020 production?

It’s not from known injury.

Is it scheming? Is Morris using them non-optimally?

It boggles the mind that 3 projected starters should all stumble just as the new DC comes on board. Occam’s Razor indicates that it’s a byproduct of the Morris hire.

To be fair to Morris other D players are exceeding preseason expectations.

Hollins
Lewis
Obo
Bash (until injured)
Ramsey

Anybody have thoughts or suggestions that could elevate Burgess, Fuller, DW’s play to at least approach their 2020 trajectory?

I’m all ears…
It's sports entertainment.

With both Ramsey and Williams in the secondary, the Rams held Titans wide receivers A.J. Brown and Julio Jones to a combined nine catches for 77 yards last week.
Rams are 11th in points allowed per game second in interceptions with 12 and first in sacks with 28
The defense is still developing and Von miller hasn't touched the field yet.

I think maybe were sounding the fire alarm a bit early.
