Yeah I remember my Dad got his hands on one of these things and brought it home all happy. When he put it on the table expectations were high, the thing looked great. And then we turned it on... :laugh3:
There was always one player that just vibrated but stood in the same spot.

I would put him against one of the players that just went in a circle.

Not quite Deacon Jones against Ron Yary.

Analytics is where it's at and PFF is very similar to what many teams including our own franchise ( one of the first) grade players, teams, FA's, and college prospects. Like it or not, it's here to stay.
Nobody denies that teams use analytics as a tool.

PFF, however, is pretty much the fantasy football version of an actual analytics department of a pro team. They publish analytic "scores" without any way for the reader to verify or evaluate the identity of the analysts, their qualifications, their methodology, or their thoroughness. Without this information, there's no reason to trust the numbers they assign to their largely subjective observations (which, as we've all seen, can be extremely counter-intuitive).

I find more objective measures ("advanced stats," for example) more interesting.

Curious that PFF is so fantasy football oriented they are starting to provide their analytics for 32 NFL teams

This is particularly good for teams unlike the Rams ( who have a rock solid Analytics department for many years now) who are newer and have inexperienced meme bees on their staff.

Curious, alot of ex NFL personal are hired at PFF and alot of ex PFF personal are employed by NFL teams including one on our the Rams staff.

I notice the people who aren’t PFF fans are more like “ Dick Butkus hitting someone hard was the only stat I needed growing up in the 1970’s” :eyeroll:

Yep, times have changed and this inches and this feet of advantage are being leveraged in many different aspects now.

PFF is trusted by all 32 teams...just ask PFF (you do realize that was a press release, right?)

You don't seem to get the nuance here, so let's try again.

Yes, analytics is a tool used by NFL teams, and PFF practices in this field.

No, the "scores" published by PFF for fans are not overly reliable, as they are largely based upon subjective observations of people with varying degrees of trained eyes.

Of course, I don't know that you are really interested in a discussion of this topic, as you seem more intent on ignoring my positive view of advanced statistics and, instead suggesting that my views are based upon those of Bears fans in the 1960s.

Yes PFF hasn't provided statistical review and analytics for NFL teams, CFL, 131 FBS teams, XFL, USFL teams since 2009 to the current year.

You don't seem to get the nuance here, so let's try again.

NFL TEAMS PAY PFF FOR STATISTICAL ANALYTICS

I know that might be hard for you to comprehend since you are more focused on your biased opinion and self improtant views while ignoring any data contrary to your faulty opinion.

Yes, analytics is a tool used by NFL teams, and PFF practices in this field.

"Rams head coach Sean McVay, meanwhile, hired PFF senior analyst and former NFL QB Zac Robinson this offseason to be L.A.’s assistant quarterbacks coach. Robinson had been watching and grading every QB snap for PFF, and his knowledge of the position and the Rams’ offense impressed McVay"

No, the "scores" published by PFF for fans are not overly reliable, as they are largely based upon subjective observations of people with varying degrees of trained eyes.

That's pretty funny because every NFL team, almost every FBS school and every other professional football and semi pro organization out there literally pays them money every year since at least 2019, and a lot of them longer period since 2009 all because of "their varying degrees of trained eyes" :eyeroll:

Zac Robinson has a lot more on his resume than just a couple of years at PFF.

You and your straw men have a good night.

th

The blip on the left had a rating of 97.
Except for one certain formation, I ran for a TD on every play.

I've played every rendition of Madden back to the 90s...they have a tendency to underrate the Rams but that's no different than most in the media.

It's really cool that with social media players are interacting and discussing their Madden ratings.

Oh and AD being 99 overall a record 7 times? It would certainly be another thing on his GOAT resume...and that kind of thing is about as relevant as fans discussing how good a player really is

I don't know a single NFL HC that trusts PFF. PFF is meant for lazy media hacks that really don't know NFL football and for fantasy footballers. Their evaluations are worse than simply flipping a coin. A player is often devalued because of the scheme he plays in not really on his actual performance. Also, QBs and RBs are marked down because of the OL they play behind is trash. Conversely, the reverse is true if the OL is great but QBs and RBs who are average look better than they are.

The NFL is a team sport and as such any single individual player's performance is heavily dependent upon the team and coaches around him. PFF is showing they still don't get it.

Electric football: had that game and used to play that pretty much in the late 70s. I had Rams home and away and 3 other teams. I wasn't impressed by the factory painting of the Ram horns, they looked half-ass and incomplete, so I painted my own.

I think I told this story here before, but on one saturday I brought my "away Rams" over to a neighbor's house to play his "home Raiders." What he had somehow done was glopped on extra glue or something heavier onto his men (under the black and silver paint). They were bigger than normal and their bodies looked kinda blobbish, and he would just run through my (normal) undersized defense. My turn on offense and I ran into a moving wall. I'm sure my RB spun around and ran the wrong way at least once! Wasn't even fair, I called him on it but we played anyway. He scored on his first 3 possessions just running over everyone and I had enough!

Raider rule 1: cheating is encouraged
Raider rule 2: see rule 1

I’m old and the world is changing wahh
I quite like some changes.

I'm stoked to be able to watch all the Rams Sunday games via YouTubeTV/Sunday Ticket.
I love being able to look up stats with a simple Google search.
I'm a big fan of how the NFL Draft has become an event to bridge the gap between seasons.
I very much like being able to order Rams products on-line, rather than hoping my local Champs of Foot Locker might carry a product or two.
And, as should be apparent, I like being able to log on and discuss Rams football with fans around the world.

Those are all things that have changed since my younger days that I truly appreciate.

Madden ratings, though? Meh. Silly.
