Pun intended.

When did we reach the point at which the rating of players on a video game is considered news?

Seriously?

Its not enough that we need to be inundated with the views of the analytics hacks at PFF, fantasy football "writers," unqualified bloggers and talking heads who have the knowledge base of an average sports bar regular. Now we have to argue about the score given by EA sports?

If that was the way we ranked players back in the day (yeah, I know I'm dating myself - now get off my lawn!), I guess Bo Jackson would have had a 183 rating (out of 100) in Tecmo Bowl.

So, yeah... congratulations on Aaron Donald becoming the first 7 time 99 rated player on Madden. That and a quarter will buy you a game of Galaga in 1983, I guess.

I wonder... how many people under the age of 30 even know who John Madden was? (HINT: he wasn't a coder).

I disagree on w/ the fantasy writers comments. Honestly learned more about each team's roster listening/reading fantasy stuff than the "regular" articles or on tv talking about the same 5 players non-stop. Those fantasy articles/podcasts often talk about individual matchups vs. if Jackson Mahomes is gonna be a distraction to Patrick.

Also Madden ratings are just fun. NBD.

Yes I think it is a real testament to the gaming industry to see a video game so popular, and a game that has been so popular for so long. Real testament to the team that has worked on that game and everyone associated with it. Even Madden, who was the lovable personality who was also a key association on top of a superb product.

Now I'm gonna go get some popcorn and enjoy watching Avenger's effort turn into a Madden appreciation thread. :laugh3:

I cannot believe this is still made.
It sucked when I was 6, and that was 70 years ago. :cautious:
As another poster referenced, some guys just went in circles.
If a guy got turned around, he would run in the opposite direction, or to the sidelines.
At the end of a play, half the guys were up against the board's edges, trying to run off the field.

The best was the little paper/fuzz-ball that lasted about six minutes; and needed to be placed in the QB's flexible arm that you would snap-back with your finger so the fuzz-ball could be passed.

Completion Percentages were lower back in the day. NFL QB's completed about 50% of their pass attempts.
In this game, the completion percentage was about 4%.

Oh yeah! Because the QB had to be able to throw over the other players, he looked completely different and was about twice the height of all the other pieces. He looked like a Giraffe.

Back then, the players were team specific. I had the Chiefs and Vikings because they played in Super Bowl IV in January 1970. The accurate uniforms made the players look cool ... except for the Giraffe Quarterback.

We used to paint them into our favorite teams with model paints. Ours came with Cards and Bears, but we painted them into Rams and Vikings. Our friends painted their teams too. Funny how that seemed more fun than the actual game….

A strong imagination was needed to really enjoy that game.

Yeah I remember my Dad got his hands on one of these things and brought it home all happy. When he put it on the table expectations were high, the thing looked great. And then we turned it on... :laugh3:

Analytics is where it's at and PFF is very similar to what many teams including our own franchise ( one of the first) grade players, teams, FA's, and college prospects. Like it or not, it's here to stay.
