This article could have been half as long though....my LORD the hyperbole in some of these pieces.

Agree - How Sports writing has changed Over the Years.

That site has good topics, but they have soooo many ads.... the articles are written to maximize that.

But, again, they do have creative topics sometimes (y)

Personally, with due respect to all posters (and even to internet talking heads/pundits), I just can't handle any more speculation about the oline.

I'm really looking forward to some informed, real world feedback from training camp.

Shouldn't take too long at least to find out whether guys are in shape and whether anyone with injuries last year-- that's actually a serious list starting with Noteboom, Allen, Havenstein, and Whit-- are fully able to practice. (Not to mention are Allen and Whit recovered from any virus impact.) Also would like to know who will be actually playing or training at which positions.

Then some more informed speculation may be in order.

I have always like Austin Corbett at LG. He plays with a mean streak, has good physical metrics for the position, and moves well. He was not an unknown to the Rams. They scouted him pre-draft and liked him a lot. They weren't the only ones. The Giants liked him as well with a 2nd round grade on him as not only an OG but as a center as well. The Rams didn't have the picks in 2018 but IMO if he had dropped to the 4th round they would have taken him as a developmental center. When Cleveland grabbed him at the top of the second round the Rams went ahead with their draft plans and took Allen to play center.

The Rams scout smaller programs heavily and Corbett coming out of Nevada certainly caught their attention. That's why when they saw him as a backup in Cleveland they traded for him giving up a 5th round pick when they were originally willing to get him with a 4th round pick. I think Corbett has enough upsides to become a very solid LG. He also looks to be a good scheme fit for what the Rams want to do in terms of running the ball.

I am not in any way disappointed in Allen. I liked what I saw in him in his limited first action. He's a better pass blocker than Sullivan, that much is evident. Like any new starting center, he must continue to learn to read the defense, but that will come with experience. Allen is athletic and smart which is something you need at the position.

Blythe's inability to read and react to stunts and delayed blitzes is disturbing for a veteran lineman. Blythe is all he's ever going to be. Allen outplayed him in his first year and has far more upsides in front of him. He and Shelton were both starting centers in their programs so there is no need to "develop" them as centers, as they both understand the position. I like both of these two and think the Rams can win with either.

It’s difficult to improve your swimming stroke when you are trying to keep from drowning.
Isn't all swimming an attempt to keep you from drowning? People who make shitty analogies shouldn't be allowed to write professionally.

Yes, but at least in part because Noteboom is a tackle and should never be a guard again.

Not only that but Noteboom tore both his ACL and MCL in November right? No way hes close to ready until mid season. He'll be on the PUP for the first 6 weeks is my guess.

Ill say this about Corbett, he has good size and was respected coming out of college, even though he hasn't put it together yet in the NFL. Hoping for the best with him.

Regarding center I think we just have to deal with Blythe for the time being. He has the most experience making protection calls and that cant be underestimated. Still pissed about Cushenberry tho.

If Corbett pans out that's fine. Fortunately we have young depth on our O-line now so he'll have competition and we have options if he doesn't pan out. I like our O-line depth, and youth and Kromer I trust Kromer in terms of developing guys.

Cushenberry went in the 3rd round with the 83rd pick. Our first pick in the 3rd round was Terrell Lewis at 84. So we didn't have a shot at Cush. What would you have had the Rams do, pass on Van Jefferson or Cam Akers?

What’s not to have a good discussion with all our creative minds. Sometimes some of them keep me scratching my head
