IMO, we all want our offense to put up Madden-type numbers, plus a shutdown defense. Unfortunately, in today's NFL, this will never happen. The league has made it perfectly clear they want offense, offense and more offense. Rules have been changed, over the recent years, to benefit the offensive side of the ball, and defenses are just a subtle speed bump. I'm okay with having a hi-octane offense and an above-average defense. I just don't think any team can have an offense who will put up 35+ points a game while surrendering less than 14. This is not your father's NFL.

I think you have some great points Mojo - this year defenses in general are struggling.

But just some numbers to look at

Edit: added superbowl offense ranks for more perspective.

The 2nd link is pretty in depth (lots of stats/graphs) - if anyone doesn't want to read it basically says super bowl winners often have a good offense AND a good defense (not a shocking conclusion of course).

I support rules that promote player safety. I think we all do. But to ignore blatant holding in order to increase scoring doesn’t promote safety. It hobbles stellar D players and changes game outcomes. Pisses me off, tbh.

yeah seems like I only see a holding call on run plays hardly ever see one on a pass play. its like they are really trying to increase scoring by ignoring holding on pass plays.
