I said it on the GDT and I'll repeat it here :
The Rams played 3 straight soft teams and then faced one of the physically toughest teams in the NFL, and we came right out of the gate, at least our OL, Stafford & McVay did, looking like we came off an extended vacation. Not counting the corrupt officiating, our fate was sealed.
I'm not counting the Rams out by any means with a 7 - 2 record, but there are valid arguments that fans can hold about preparation & coaching decisions. While injuries are hurting us, we still haven't engaged Von Miller and the potential he brings, but still, coaching decisions and horrible referees can do more to wreck a season than we normally anticipate when we expect roster vs roster to be the final arbiter for games played. I'm not sure if the NFL is selling us a bill of goods these days, but Black Sox level corruption is making me very wary with the co-mingling of legalized NFL gambling and human referees. jmo.
What is a soft team exactly?
yeah.. just saying Tampa has perhaps the best Dline of anyone we have faced and we dominated them.Well, it's obviously subjective, but many here previously thought of the New York Giants, Detroit Lions & Houston Texans with their combined record of 4 - 22 as being relatively 'soft' compared to much of the rest of our schedule.
8. Stop the dam shit talking and let your play speak. Next one that gets in an opponents face after the play will be sitting out of the game until a coach can get his mind right.
Two losses so far this season and you guys want to give up? I thought we were made of stronger stuff round here.
I'm sure the coaches cover all of these concerns, it's the execution and brain farts that are rearing its stinky head. Coaches and players too, on game day.The prison of two ideas.
Are you A or B? Uh neither.
I am C.
I am not a lunatic who thinks the season is over. I also don’t think we will be fine if we just move on.
C = We can get better if we identify the problem and fix it.
And I believe we will.
Here is a practical list of a few learning lessons:
1. Take check downs early in games vs tough defenses until it’s clear the Oline can hold up on the longer routes.
2. Create plays that allow our QB to have short outlets or the ability to throw the ball away when protection breaks down. Walk through it at practice.
3. Mix in the PA/rollouts earlier against tough defenses when pass pro starts breaking down.
4. Play with greater ball security vs tough defenses with poor offenses. If it’s not open eat it. Punt.
5. Contain on the edge - Floyd is repeating his mistake vs the Cardinals. All Edge guys must be covered on this.
6. Review Williams tape last year. Get him back in that role.
7. Stop playing loose zone coverage especially on third down. Man the hell up.
8. Stop the dam shit talking and let your play speak. Next one that gets in an opponents face after the play will be sitting out of the game until a coach can get his mind right.
9. Review the late hits on the QB and see if we can do anything to minimize the refs affect on the game.
10. Review the Oline breakdowns. Figure out id the failures can be fixed via technique, blocking scheme or play call.
Limited choices makes it not worth voting. BTW Excellent tv show (Succession)
Plot twist is the superbowl is at homeSilver lining in this: it's not like we play all that well at home, so if we do have to go on the road it won't be the end of the world in the playoffs.
Also, I sort of felt we would lose to either the Titans or Niners. If this loss helps us beat them down Monday night, I'm happy
I wish we could go back to the Tony Banks years 1996-1998 , those were the days!
