I just watched Bijon Robinsin highlights.

I actually could see the Rams turning back the clock, if they can get a mid 1st rounder, and make a move to go get him. He looks a lot like Gurley. Maybe a tad slower, but he looks like he would give them the same big play ability and physical presence in the backfield.

That type of addition would change the offense and give it a big boost, while protecting Stafford by taking some pressure off of him. Not to mention it would take some pressure off the defense in terms of ball control.

This offense has been getting worse (IMO) since 2018. Good defenses have all but solved it and they do not (currently) have the type of players to run it successfully regardless.
'The offense has been getting worse since 2108?? What?? What about 2021? That offense looked pretty good to my eye.

And it can be argued injuries derailed the offense in 2019 and 2022. In the case of 2019, the offense averaged 28 PPG when the OL injuries began, so clearly or at least strong evidence suggests the offense was fine when OL health was good. Or is 28 PPG not good? They finished 7th in yards and 11th in points! In the case of 2022, the OL was healthy for 1 game.

McVay's offenses have ranked (in yards) 10, 2, 7, 11, 9 and 32. Looks to me like just one year is not like the others. Of course points scored is another thing...1, 2, 11, 22, 7, 27. It could be argued yards point to the ability of the offense, while points indicate their efficiency. All it takes is some untimely turnovers to affect a difference there.
Where are they going to find the $ or draft capital to fix the OL, TE, WR and RB positions?? Lol... It was literally just Stafford to Kupp last year... Even when they were healthy. It was a horrible offense.
It was a horrible offense for a number of reasons, the biggest being the lack of OL health starting in week 2. Some argue they need to fix the OL. Some argue they simply need to get and remain healthy. It's probably both to varying degrees. True they do need another TE and RB but the WRs are fine. Kupp, ARob, VJ, Skowronek, Tutu and perhaps an addition, though I wouldn't say that's imperative.

Of course a couple new weapons certainly wouldn't hurt. So yeah, tweak it some.

I suppose if you wanted to win more games offense is the way to go. But its hard to win playoff games without a good defense. Whatever the case they do need to do something with the offense. That was pretty much the sole reason for losing so many games.

It's gonna be lean for additions. Rams only have so many resources for what will be coming in. This is gonna be a "let's make the playoffs in a rebuilding year" year.

Offense shouldn't have trouble adding a RB for depth. Late rounds to UDFA can be in play for that. LT they will stand pat, just don't have the resources for it so will hope the duo out there can give us 17 games. Interior OL and TE should be the priorities for pick usage for this side of the ball.

Defense it's the same with Safety as RB. You can get them all over, and this front office has, as well as cheap in FA. ILB isn't really a need because they believe in Jones. Whether they're right we'll see. Rams may not touch Floyd because they're already short on the edge and he plays hurt, can stop the run strong side, etc., but if they do move him it creates a big shortage in that edge room. So I think Corner and Edge for the prime picks, where they pounce on either at first opportunity if best on the board.

So not sure if I'd say this is going to be an offensive focused draft/offseason. I think each side of the ball should target help in FA, those being S and OG which can both be relatively cheap on the market. And how they go round 2 is probably gonna be dependent on the board, even if they move down. I don't think we see a McVay targeting of specific position like what seemed to have happened with Tutu. They have enough needs for that round 2 pick to take the best guy. Good chance there will be a iOL, TE, CB, Edge option in the very top of whatever area they select from with that first one.

Going back to offense,, what does everyone think of making Perkins a running back instead of a back-up QB? He at least would be the 3rd QB if both the starter and back-up got hurt in the same game "cough" you still suck 49ers "cough".

I think Perkins could be used on occasion as a RB who can possibly throw on a couple plays a game.

Just a thought.
I wouldn't mind at all, question is would he be ok with that?

If we are looking solely at offensive weapons during the draft (not saying thats what I would do), Jahmyr Gibbs would probably be the best available we have a shot at. A RB that has world class speed and receiving skills. However his a availability can apparently change if someone else convets him.

So RB4/QB3? He is a weapon with his legs.
Yeah RB4/QB3 - use him to mix it up with roll out/pass as a RB

Defenses won't know if he is going to run or pass when he does that

But only at most a few plays a game

Scrambling on pass plays and designed runs are completely different. He's 6'3 215 and ran 4.68 at the combine. Too slow and not big enough to be a power back. I'd rather stick with Kyren Williams.
Oh he would not be the primary back-up RB - like I said in another post - RB4 at most

He's only 200Lbs though from what I have seen.

I would rather go big back at some point.

I get wanting the big back......hello ladies lol.....but Im confident in Gibbs being special at the next level. That's dudes burst is crazy as hell and looks like he is shot out of a cannon. He's not only a RB but a weapon. Only thing is I'm not sure if he falls in like with our biggest needs.

Points scored is the only thing.

Also, the 2021 offense, to my eye at least, did not look as good as the 2017-2018 offense. A healthy Gurley was such a game changer in Mcvay's scheme. Almost akin to Faulk in the Martz offense. Play action has always been the key to this offense and we haven't had the RB room to exploit it since Gurley broke down. Just my. 02.

I'm giving Akers his 'contract' year to shine with Williams sharing rotational snaps along with a bigger RB who is drafted in the mid-later rounds to replace Malcolm Brown, then select an inexpensive free agent RB4 (D'Ernest Johnson) who can step in if a player is injured.
Draft a new, higher round starting RB next year when Akers hits free agency.
jmo.

I said it before and I'll say it again, I don't think McVay could pass on Gibbs if he is there at our pick. They almost sent the Panthers a haul of picks (including #36) for the rights to pay CMC a huge amount of money each year. Gibbs would be an extremely cheap contract if taken in the 2nd and give them CMC-lite for 4 cost controlled years. I'm not saying I'd be terribly happy about it, but, I can't argue the dude is exciting and a real weapon receiving. He can even line up in slot so kind of handling 2 positions in 1. Akers at RB and Gibbs in slot. It does make some sense but think we have bigger fish to fry.

2018 RS: 55 TD, 34 FG (487 pts - 16 G)
2018 PS: 5 TD, 7 FG (59 Pts - 3G)
Total: 60 TD, 41 FG (546 pts 19 GP) 28.7 PPG

2021 RS: 51 TD, 32 FG (453 pts - 17 G)
2021 PS: 10 TD, 9 FG (100 Pts - 4G)
Total: 61 TD, 41 FG (553 pts - 21 GP) 26.3 PPG

Really not a huge difference. A team could win a Superbowl with either offense. The difference is a stud RB. And yet, the 2021 team, sans the stud RB, won and the 2018 team lost.

To my eye, the offenses were different. One had a stud RB and a very good, albeit young QB. The other, no stud RB and an excellent, experienced QB.

Nobody can convince me the 2018 offense was any better than the 2021. And we're talking two of the best McVay offenses in his 6 years.

I think that McVay will do what ever he has to do to get a running game for next year. He is sick of not being able to run the ball.

I dont know how to have a loaded up offense with a make shift offensive line. If they cant get that right, all the playmakers in the world cant help
