I almost want to go with a five man dline on passing downs with 5db's/safties, and Littleton in the middle.

Tommy's gonna get hit. Repeatedly.

Giving qb's like Brady time is a death sentence.

The only successful defenses against him over the years have been teams who got there with 4. He can smell that 5th guy coming and find his outlet every time.

Get to him with 4. Leave 7 out there to guard his 5 targets.

And when you hit him, make it count.

Aaron Donald and Ndamukong Suh need to bring their A+ games. Fowler and Ebukam are going to have a hard time getting to Brady.

When Wade beat the Patriots with the Broncos a few years ago in the playoffs, he did so by only rushing 3 and 4. He varied his coverages, went against his tendencies, and confused the hell out of Brady. It helped that his DL still got pressure without blitzing, but he also fooled the hell out of Brady by doing what Brady never expected based on Wade's tendencies.

I’m not sure I would spend a whole lot of time on exotic stunts either. They are too well prepared to confuse them into pressure. We have to just be the better athletes out there. The good news is - we are.

Whoever the RB is should get chipped and dumped every passing play like Suh did to Kamara. Anything to disrupt their timing and give the pass rush an extra split second to get home.

I hate the Patriots, have ever since 2001, but my cousin is married to Dante Scarneccia for over 40 years. A few years ago Dante retired and the whole family came out to visit us in Montana. I had the pleasure of taking Dante and his son Steve fly fishing out of my drift boat for a long day.

I came away from that day and their whole visit with incredible admiration for Dante. He’s a hell of a coach and seems to get a lot out of journeyman players.

That was the year we drafted Robinson, Brown and Havenstein. I asked him about our draft picks, he was too polite to say anything about Robinson, but he told me with Havenstein we were set at right tackle for the next ten years.

The Chargers have a good pass rush but they came out in their 7 DB defense and refused to come out of it. That look was great against Baltimore confusing the rookie but the Pats just ran right into it. They take what they are given - which is why we need to be able to get home with 4 and give them nothing.

That would be great if we could do it.
But I'm almost positive we will NOT get home with rushing 4, very often, or even once.
We HAVE TO send 5 or 6 once in a while. We have to or Tommy will have 4 seconds to throw.

I'm not sure about you guys but I think Suh is getting better and better in the off-season, he's going to peak in the SB, couple that with AD99 having the platform to bring his A++ game to show why he really is the leagues MVP.

Pressure up the middle, and leave the rest to bully the WRs

The Pats have given up 3 pressures and zero sacks in their 2 playoff games with this line. Their Oline is so underrated. I think Rams should assume they lose the battle in the trenches against this oline, and play to defend the pass. I don't think Brady is gonna get beat from pressure and sacks. So, let's test that arm of his and force long passes...no gimmie short passes.
If we dont harass Brady in the pocket we lose. Simple as that.

Damn straight.
Cover sacks. Rush 4 guys.

yup, key to winning Vs. the Pats is hitting Brady and making him feel the pressure. Chiefs have a pretty good dline too when it comes to passrush so we have our work cut out for us.

Right. But no other team has been able to yet. So, if we can't harass him, then what? What other options?

Mix in a lot of 8 defenders standing, rarely blitz as usually ineffective against Brady, maul the recievers off the line, and if blitzing on occasion go up the middle.

This!

In addition mug the RBs coming out of the backfield. Play through the whistle with the hits. No flags? Keep doing it.

All this sound familiar? Watch the Pats in SB 36. Time for some of their own medicine.

I agree to blitz every one in awhile. I hate rushing just three.

Rams have to rotated Westbrooks and JFM a little more to keep Suh, Brokers and Donald rested. I fear late in the game they will tire out and Brady will have all day to throw.

2 of them are ufa’s. They must have a great Oline coach. Brady releasing the ball so quickly likely helps.
