Mentioned this prior but it seems to me like those freak types who go higher typically bust, or at the very least have a higher than normal bust rate. I haven't taken the time to look them up or anything, so going off memory here, but Davis is the last freak type who translated that I can recall. May have been another one, however for that one or two I miss the rest seem to bust.

I suppose we can include Kittle as a freak type. But it's something I find quite interesting. In fact I'd look it up but I have about six hours of yard work that has to get done today so hope I survive in this high heat/humidity. :laugh3:
And then there was the TE taken before Donald by Detroit.

I know a Detroit fan who was pissed that they took that TE in the draft.

He really wanted Donald.

I wonder why?

All I do know is that TE busted really bad. Donald - was he any good?

I saw Warren's time as 4.68 (DraftBuzz). Is that correct?

I'm a PSU fan too and watching Warren, I didn't think he was fast. Just got open a lot and caught everything.
He isn’t fast but he gets open, is fast and runs people over. I love his physicality. I’ve seen reports varying from 4.68 to 4.75.

One poster on here kept saying Warren wasn’t being covered by teams top DBs so it was easy for him to get open. However, no tight ends are covered by teams top DBs. So it’s a moot point. Warren got open consistently, despite every team knowing he was the focal point of the PSU passing attack. That’s impressive considering he’s not that fast.

I don’t think he actually got open as much as this thread makes it seem. He constantly had someone in his hip, but he is exceptional at using his size to shield/box out the db.

Maybe. It’s a pretty general statement and we are talking about a difficult position to translate. I think a lot comes into play here. Some of the guys that excelled in college, but didn’t in the NFL may have been used differently when they hit the league. Maybe they weren’t used right to fit their skillset.

It depends on what you call open. Having a step on a DB or LBer is open imo. In many of those plays he was wide open. But, y a, in some cases he did great making contested catches too. But that’s not really a negative is it?

The negatives on Ferguson- name me one tight end that does not look a little slow and ambling in their running style. I see routes the Pfizer boy runs and I think heck I’m faster and more twitchy than him! (Especially after coffee. I’m very twitchy after coffee)

Let’s just see if he gets it in the League. Some guys do, and some guys don’t.
I forgot the most obvious one. Brock Bowers

I think the kid will be learning this year and not much of a factor with Higbeast playing his arse off.

I think he projects well to this level. His hands are soft. He looks the part in this video.

Ferguson is definitely one of my favorite Camp storylines to follow. I’d love to see more TE in the passing game.

I know they're "highlights", but Ferguson looks fast (compared to DB's chasing him down), strong, good hands and concentration catching the ball, nice change of direction, and some toughness plowing over defenders. I look forward to seeing how he translates to the pros during training camp.

I like that quick release block with the pop pass they would do with him, he does a good job selling it just enough. Have to think McVay will use that a bit when he's in there.

And Mike Brown and the Bengals continue to be utter morons.

"We're not paying someone to sit in jail!"

Well, then. That begs this question: Why the FUCK did you draft him #17 overall, then?! You clearly believed he could help your franchise as a top twenty pick. Why didn't your admittedly-bare-bones scouting department do your research on the prospects before you selected one of them?

I truly feel sorry for Bengals fans with this and the Hendrickson holdout. It's stupid, cheap, and asinine behavior, even from a front office known to be that way.

Absolutely not. He was my #1 wish this draft. But it seems like people think he was open the way Brock Bowers was, and he just wasn’t. He’s just not that type of player. He’s going to make a lot of tough catches and is going to bully people, but I think his transition to the nfl will be a little tougher than Brock’s was, simply because the level of defenders are not going to give up that step as easy
