Purdy's flaws have been exposed and now you will see NFL defensive coordinators make the adjustments to limit his effectiveness. He lasted to the 7th round in the draft for a reason.

I generally agree with you, but then Brady lasted into the 6th round. There are always exceptions....

It’s clear that McCaffrey is wearing down. While still scoring touchdowns his impact has dwindled week to week. If they’re smart they would balance his workload so he has something left in the tank at the end of the season. But we all know Ratboy is not smart about grinding his offense weapons into the ground (see Dweebo, Lance, etc).

Brady was a rare case. Even the Patriots didn’t think of him as more than a backup.

Players are so deeply vetted that if there is a possible Diamond in the rough then teams take a chance on them, like Trey Lance for instance. Did every team miss something about Purdy? Did they whiff so badly that he was the very last pick in the draft? I think the likelihood of that is very slim. He was in a major college program. He was a well known player.

More likely it’s just that Purdy fits Shanahan’s system, which is easy on QBs. Plus he’s got a lot of very good weapons and up until the last two games his Oline has protected him pretty well, which is not too hard to do when passes are coming out so quickly.

Maybe part of Purdy’s downfall is due to his all pro left tackle starting to decline. Trent Williams talks about retirement every year, but keeps coming back because his team is stacked.

When the 49ers faced the Browns Myles Garrett beat Williams thirteen times. That’s an all time high for Trent Williams. Then he faced Daniele Hunter. The Vikings have an excellent DC in Brian Flores. I’m sure he saw what happened the week before.

I just hope that Byron Young and the Rams pass rush progresses at light speed before the Rams play the 49ers again.

Because Brady was a rare case, that makes him an exception to the rule.

To me, EVERY QB taken from the mid 1st round until the last pick in the 7th is a back up QB in the NFL until they prove they aren't.

The last two games he faced the NFL's #1 D and the NFL's #1 blitzing D. So what's the game plan for defenses facing the niners? The Bengals D ain't no slouch....#6 D vs the pass, 19 sacks (#11), 8 Int (#4)......so it could be 3 in a row.

If Williams is still out I'd imagine everybody is gonna blitz the shit out of him and try to force mistakes. Especially if Deebo is still not available and he's having to rely more on a player like Jennings.

Since this is a Brock Purdy thread might as well mention here that he's in concussion protocol and Darnold is expected to start Sunday against the Bengals. If the 49ers fall to 5-3 I think maybe we can forget the idea they've clinched all there is to clinch and will be backups against us in the final game. I'm good with that.

And hopefully Darnold throws a couple of picks in his place. Nihers fall to 5-3.

I'm amazed at how many passes Purdy floats into the deep middle of the field between defenders that never get picked off. Every time that ball is in the air, I'm convinced a safety will come down with it, but it never happens.

Is it me or are there not a lot of true ball hawks right now?

I have no ill will towards Purdy. His story is actually inspiring. With that said, Rams success is my #1 NFL passion by a mile. But sitting at #2 is 69er failure. F the 69ers!!
