I keep reading about how the interception was a back breaker for the Rams.

In the context of the game it had no effect at all. The Rams would have still needed to score twice to take the lead if they kicked the fg.

21-9 at the time. Kicking the fg makes it 21-12. The whiners would have then taken a 24-12 lead with their fg.

Whichever way you look at it the Rams still needed to score 2 tds to win if they didn't score a td on that drive.

3 points wasnt going to help, that's why they went for it. The INT hurt because they didnt even get to pin San Fran on the 1 yard line. That was why it was so painful

The back breaker was Kupp dropping the TD. But the INT letting them out to the 20 didn't help. Frankly, I don't blame Goff on that. Woods should have kept his route to the flats. He ran his man into Goff's throw.

I also think Reynolds could have done a better job making a play for the ball, not that he could have caught it, but that he could have disrupted the INT

I disagree. The moment the ball is snapped Goff locks onto Reynolds. Verrett sees this well before the pass is thrown. Verrett flips his hips and breaks for the ball before Woods heads up field.

It looked bad from the get go. As soon as goff caught the ball it didn't look like the play would work. Everyone was covered.

Good video.. he was open - if Goff wouldn't have stared him down it prob would have been 6.

He was only open because the cb was going for the ball. Every receiver was covered. This is when a scrambling qb comes in handy. They can run around back there until a wr works his way open.

Great video...It was a good play by Verrett coming off Woods and making a play, you can't blame it on Woods because Verrett already recognized Goff's eyes and started breaking for the ball before Woods turned it up.

Decision wise, I dont think it was bad...but if Goff makes a better throw its a TD. More anticipation and start that throw before Reynolds comes out of his break.. or more velocity on the throw and put it on his body instead of lead him so much. Or throw it high and towards the back of the endzone and let him jump. Could've been much better ball placement.

But regarding pre snap read, they're obviously in man coverage. You have a clear 1 on 1 with a back shoulder throw to Everett, and you have Henderson matched up with a LB. I like both those matchups a bit better than throwing into a crowded area with 3 defenders in the red zone where windows are always tighter. But again I don't think it was a wrong decision, he had three viable options IMO. Just got to make a better throw there if that was his choice.

Goff made some big throws/plays in this game. He moved in the pocket well, the throw to Woods for the TD was amazing. The deep throw down the right sideline to Woods that he dropped was sick too, that was his best IMO. Also him running for the 1st down on 3rd and long was huge. But the inconsistency is what kills us. It's rare for him to play a clean game all the way through without missed throws or mistakes.. but when he's not under pressure like this game, that's what should be expected from him.

I don't much like the design of the call, if they would of not had two receivers in the same spot it's likely a TD

Goff had no choice but to put it up for grabs. Throwing it away gives you no chance at all. The way the 49ers ran through our D , pinning them at the one wouldn’t mean much. 2 plays and they would’ve been to the 20 anyways.
Reynolds made no effort to get the ball.

Well, it's bang-bang, but you're right that he was already looking at Goff, so it didn't matter what Woods did. Frankly, I don't like that play design there. Goff has to make that throw. It's 4th down. Reynolds is the only option who isn't blanketed. Can't blame Jared for going for it. And Goff locking onto Reynolds is irrelevant. There's no safety to read him, and Verrett doesn't turn back to him until he's already in the midst of his throwing motion.

Goff seemed off this game compared to normal and it didn’t help the WR’s dropping any game changing pass out there. Honestly bad game all around.

Wasn’t to surprised the defending NFC champs had some competitive spirit and if they were going to get up for any game it would be ours.

So true @shovelpass Also, watch again. I know it wasn't the route called but watch. If Reynolds had run a post in front of his defender, TD. The 2 LBs were spread apart and up to far. Would have been wide. But you're right. Woods route did NOTHING to help the play. He should have ran is straight out to the sidelines to keep Verrett forward more.

And OMG did Goff lock on with his eyes instantly or what? Not good.

Not to mention the bunch set that gives Goff THREE receivers to lock on to...

I think it's pretty clear that Woods was the first read. He comes off Woods and finds Reynolds. It doesn't really matter because three receivers are in the same area.

I don't like that play design either. But it looks like an economical read for the QB in a situation where you think he's gonna get quick heat. He can make 3 reads in a very small area. Drawback is little room for error in time or location on that ball.

On that same note one of my beefs with this game overall is that the protections were there but the offense was acting all hurried. I wonder at times if maybe McVay presses on Goff too much in terms of saying "protect the ball here" and also whether he can be too conservative at times. It just seemed out of whack to me. The hurried approach and reads yet the OL was handling things.

I believe McVay should have went into 4 minute mode earlier basically. Because of the above and also because of the way his defense was getting "ball possessioned" so badly all night long.
