well it didnt look good.. but hey in the end we only gave up 14 pts.

Hopefully it should improve - but we knew with the bodies we were missing that our defense was going to take a hit somewhat.

Fml… cover 2 concepts are literally 2 decades past their prime! Stop!!
Was it? I need to see the All-22 to see. I don't know from what I saw that they were playing a lot of cover-2 or cover-2 concepts... I do think we may not have had as much safety rotation as we used to do but again, need to watch all-22.

Honestly, I don't know how anyone can tell what D a teams playing without watching the all-22 other than maybe seeing if it's man/zone or cover-3 from the broadcast picture.

Not concerned as long as they improve weekly. I think they won’t peak until mid season.

Some observations to keep an eye on:
-piss poor tackling. Chicago RBs made the Rams look inept
-soft middle against the run. Poor coverage against TEs was blatant tonight
-Donald was getting into his groove as the game progressed. He won’t miss 2 sacks snd 4 tackles again this year
-Ramsey may win DPOY if he plays like he did tonight.
-Williams is good but physically dominated by top WRs
-I didn’t notice Robinson at all. Which is not a good thing

We do need a bigger sample size. And we're gonna get it with two tough games in the Colts and Bucs. Colts are gonna be juiced man, they got punked by Seattle. So for now and just from a live watch and me being annoyed at how soft they played....

1. Rams have to sort who is replacing Brock and that might affect who starts at NT. I honestly don't think they know who the guy is there yet. One thing I do love about McVay though is that you can bet your ass he's gonna nuke it and they have options. I think what we lack at 5T is power. Robinson, well, I remain unimpressed. But at least he played and finished the game eh?

2. Jrry pointed out the usage of Floyd in coverage in the flat and I was throwing shit in my living room seeing him doing that during that segment. All I can say is the Bears must have isolated things in the formation to force that and Morris is gonna have to make his adjustments. It was definitely irritating to see him misused like that. The guy is not good outside of a straight drop to jam up passing lanes and even then it should be occasional not every fucking time. We need his big rangy ass setting the edge. Either way it seemed to me that the Bears out-gameplanned Morris.

3. I suspect the lack of preseason snaps in live action hurts the trenches. Notice how the OL started owning their shit as the game went on. I think this shit might be the price of entering the season without those preseason game injuries. So I am hopeful in this way that the front seven will improve in the run game.

4. I don't know what coverage they were playing because we couldn't really see the secondary but as someone pointed out the weakness of cover two is a light box. What made Staley special is the way he would make it look like a light box but there would often be an additional defender moving into the box as the snap was made.

5. I have hope with Rochell. Long looked like a dropoff from Hill but again it's early and hope he's ok. One thing to remember with corners is some of these guys give themselves extra cushion when they're feeling insecure about the matchup. Robinson vs Long was a mismatch, probably the only mismatch of the day. To some extent our defense as a two safety look is designed to force things underneath, and the tackling was decent early on but they definitely need some fucking tackling drills to focus in on that.

Lastly it's not a bitch fest to discuss areas the team came up short. They have a few things to fix and when they do watch out man.

Not cover 2, a few times but concepts like fuck. That Raheem Morris seems to prod to adapt in this current NFL

Isn't tackling pretty weak early on without preseason? I'm not saying it won't continue. They could be shyte for the year, but I won't freak out about it for a few more games.

What ever Morris was calling I don't like it. We should be challenging every pass and playing tougher run D. I hate seeing my corners playing on the other side of the 1st down marker on 3rd down. Their throwing short and we can't get to the passer. Cover short and make him hold the ball. I don't get it. Also, as good as Ramsey is, lets not get to cute. He is one of the best cover corners. Lets use him doing that a little more than playing LB or Star or what ever. Not an expert, just a fan.

Given that we have a new DC and some new faces, I'd say it was fine overall. Sure, the long dink-and-dunk drives are frustrating to watch but, in the end, the Rams gave up 14 points and allowed 322 total yards and 4.7 yards per play. Those are very good numbers.

I don't like the long dink & dunk drives, even if they result in just 3 pts. They just increase opportunity for injury to key starters. They get tired and bad stuff can happen.

Reminds me alot of Phillip's D, bend dont break. We should have seen this coming without a real LB to protect the run. Secondary started out strong, but then wore thin. My guess is offense kept getting off the field too fast. I'm not worried yet, but we do need to address stopping the run.

He ran a big dime most of the time. And an empty box half of the time. You gotta play your lbs to give them a chance lol

Our defense had a fumble and an interception in the 1st quarter.
They played great. We had the lead all game, that affects defensive stats. I see no problem with our D.

The score was better than the on-field product, imo... but it's game one.
Like @Merlin said.. I think they'll be playing with that front. Brown wasn't active.. I think that's mostly because his thumb isn't 100%. I think he could contribute at nose and maybe free up SJD to play the 5 some.
Another thing... Robinson had a procedure like three weeks ago.. I'm glad he was out there fighting.

I'm not excited about the pass rush and hope that gets a little better.

Rapp didn't look like he came off the field and seemed to have a solid game, no?
Hollins... I don't feel like he gets a lot of wins in pass rush, but he's a heck of an athlete and seems to be able to capitalize on opportunities created by others. I feel like he had about as good a debut at OLB starter as we could ask for. I'm curious if Obo and Garrett can bring any change-up heat on pass rush.

I am honestly not worried about the Defense because it was week 1 and they played no preseason.

The scheme was garbage but I honestly don't see that light front as something we use often. Honestly a team like the Niners would run for 500 yards if we did that.

I am sure Morris will scheme up game specific schemes.

Not to mention you absolutely have to change up schemes nearly each week in the NFL.

The D certainly needs some tweaking. We look very suspect against the run....again

Not willing to be critical of the D in a game the Rams controlled and in which the D gave up only 14 points. There's room for adjustments and improvement on both sides of the ball, but that's to be expected.

Coming off a fairly impressive victory that's also a good thing. The D can get better.

This thread come on enjoy the win. We gave up 14 points had a tipped interception made several 4down stops and the starters basically didn’t play a total of one preseason game.
This defense will be just fine

See you in Indy ✌

Some people will find any excuse to complain. If we had a perfect game people would be complaining about logos and uniforms.
