The biggest element that would come into play here with Troy Hill who I have to believe will be our 5th corner when the regular season begins is the "Preseason Injury Element".I don't think Hill gets cut unless the Rams pick up a cheaper vet after cuts are made. $2mil is steep, but depth at corner is necessary in this league. Admittedly, I have not been all that impressed with Hill, but there is not a better option currently on the roster.
My thought is far from both Troy Hill & Dom Hatfield for this 2019 TC & preseason. They have done nothing for me to consider them as positive 53 player Ram roster material. The Rams can go with who plays the best in camp. The money shouldn't be the issue. Hatfield doesn't look all that good to me. Hill has been up and down but, has played very well at times.
The OP's link also suggests that Cleveland OC JC Tretter may just become a CAP Casualty, and should Rams management have doubts about Brian Allen starting, Tretter could make for a viable upgrade. Being that they already traded RG Kevin Zeitler in that blockbuster which brought them WR O'Dell Beckham, I have doubts that they would release Tretter, but if they did ...
"Currently, JC Tretter is in the final season of a three-year, $16.75 million deal. The Browns could save $5.75 million by cutting their starting center.
The idea of moving on from two-thirds of an offensive interior counted among the league's best last season seems foolish. Cleveland ranked first with the lowest knockdown percentage between Weeks 9-17, per Pro Football Focus' John Kosko. But the Browns have ready-made replacements on the roster at right guard and center.
Austin Corbett is prepared to replace Kevin Zeitler. General manager John Dorsey also signed Eric Kush on the first day of free agency. Kush came into the league as a center and could replace Tretter if the Browns are comfortable with the versatile blocker".
According to Pro Football Focus, Bitonio and Zeitler were the two best pass-blocking guards in the league in 2018, and Tretter ranked third among centers.
Overall, Pro Football Focus ranked the Browns offensive line as the second-best in 2018, and that started with the three guys at the heart of it.
Its amazing how Cleveland has had a really good oline for many years, and yet have nothing to show for itThe OP's link also suggests that Cleveland OC JC Tretter may just become a CAP Casualty, and should Rams management have doubts about Brian Allen starting, Tretter could make for a viable upgrade. Last season the Rams experienced a series of injuries to seven signed Edge Rushers i.e. Okoronkwo- Fox- Easley- Young- Longacre- Carlos Thompson- Ryan Davis that resulted in a big trade by the trade deadline. The Rams used draft selections as legal tender.
If one of the Ram units goes through this same problem this early season then I would expect Troy Hill's name to be on the top of that list. Other surprise Rams might be a trades of TE Tyler Higbee to save 2.2. mil. & OG Austin Blythe $2.1 million. There is also some marginal $$ K's, that would come from WR Mike Thomas, SS Marqui Christian, DT Tanzel Smart & CB Dom Hatfield & WR JoJo Natson, RB Justin Davis & CB Dante Deayon.
Ref. TE....Yes, McVay would need to have Everett playing better than Higbee & have two other TE's who can contribute in his offense this season. The main problem with considering a trade of Higbee is you better have an outstanding blocking TE ready to be #2.Higbee's fate is probably tied to the emergence of a new TE from that group of UDFAs.
Natson is in a precarious spot because Hodge is a better WR and there's other KRs on the roster. Davis is probably on the way out too. The Rams have added a #3 RB every season for 3 straight years.
Thomas was doomed when Reynolds was drafted. Thomas has hung around because of STs, but that's exactly how depth and new upgrades are added--by making STs. Thomas has already stayed too long.
I have a hard time seeing Blythe getting the boot when there's already 2 new starters to add to the OL. That would be quite a dependence on the rookie class along with Noteboom and Allen.

I am thinking that corner Kevin Peterson will look very solid & we might need to remember that he did start as a rookie in 2017 & had the best game of that season for a Ram corner. I see Peterson as our 5th corner after Rookie David Long, who will end up being #4 with NRC @ #3.
Another better corner prospect for us to get excited about is Darious Williams. I suspect that we will be discussing him in August a lot. DW has 4.44 speed in 40, 39" VJ & a 6.4 @3 cone time all outstanding. He is also a ballhawk. I see him as our 6th corner.
The 7th corner & next best up will be ex G-men Donte Deayon who is fast, runs a 4.42 in the 40. He can play press, good in man coverage & excelled playing the field boundary left corner post.
I think we signed only one DB from the UDFA. list. You think he could surprise?Considering the guys they drafted for the OL, and how Blythe got pushed around by big, quick Dl-iners, its clear the Rams need/want to get bigger on the OL. Blythe is better suited to spell guys off the bench, he's just not big enough to be a starter. He can back up all inside OL positions. Wouldn't surprise me if Rams pick up a Vet who gets cut right before TC or before season starts.
I'll be really concentrating on TE's and CB's this coming TC. I'm betting one UDFA from each group impress.
