GZ has now missed 3 of 6 FGs in the 40-49 yard range this year. He missed in Carolina, Cleveland, and Seattle. But he’s perfect from every other range, including 2 for 2 beyond 50 yards.

It’s weird, but I’ve always been more worried about his 40 yarders than his 50 yarders.

Some years back he had a bad season where I can recall being all over his accuracy (going off memory here) on some of the "gimme" range. Think it was his 40-50 range but hard to remember. But he did have a down season and I was convinced we'd be going another direction. Of course he rebounded and I was wrong. But this year's GZ looks a lot like that year's GZ thus far yeah.

Its something to keep a watch on, but there are plenty of kicks left for him to right the ship.

Here's his career stats:
1570296954290.png

Some notes...
* 60% from 50+ over his career.

* 80% from 40-49 over his career.

* 2015 was the season I alluded to, when he was 5 of 8 (62%) in the 40-49 range, and 3 of 9 (33%) from 50+.

* In the years since (i.e. since he's been in LA) his 40-49 has been close to career norms (78%) and his 50+ has been a rather insane 75%. I attribute the 40-49 to his ball movement btw, the way he torques it, and how it tends to straighten out in the longer distance but that's just eyeball/opinion.

Right now he's trending far below his norm on 40-49 (50%), but above on 50+ (100%).

Edit: oh and btw... 50 points in 5 games is a lot of usage. I think that's going to go down but damn.

This is why kickers drive coaches crazy lol. Think it's safe to say he's still a good one though.

He missed a lot when it matters. Too much for a guy getting paid as a top kicker.
You’re crazy I wouldn’t Greg for any kicker in the league.
We just weren’t meant to Thursday night.
We had 2 of the top plays of the year happen in one game. A game deciding penalty, then some how got to the point where we could win and missed a field goal.

lets be real here. it was a gimme fg for greg, and he missed it. and thats fine. WRs miss gimme catches, qbs miss gimme passes, defenders miss gimme ints, etc. shit happens, youre not gonna be perfect 100% of the time. im sure he'll bounce back and make more important fgs than that one in the future. nothing to dwell on imo

That's the thing we put ourselves in a position to win. He has to make that very manageable kick. He gets paid like a closer. So close

He's just been a little off this year. There is no denying that. He's at 80% this year. Last year he was at 87%, and 2 years ago he was amazing at 95%, with 12 out of 12 in the 40-49 range. He hasn't been that guy so far this year. Maybe its the back surgery. Who knows.

Like the one he missed in the SB
And this is this year. He lost the game to seattle.
"This year" was 7 games ago.

He lost the game?
Nope. But he should have helped win it but it didn't work out. GZ is a weapon. He isn't on fire right at the moment but the dude is a stud kicker and has a lot of fucking up ahead of him before I would even begin to consider any alternative option.

Disagree with this take...defense, oh, and the other team had something to do with it.

Not playing against air...

Yeah, 2015 was weird for him. He had some problems kicking outdoors (Missed 3 in GB and 2 in SF). I still feel like he's a step below automatic outdoors, but darn near close to automatic inside.

It says a lot about GZ and the their kicking game in general that Rams fans think 40+ yard tries are automatic. We're spoiled.
