I love how Burgess flew all around the field last year in the action he saw. Excited for his future with the Rams.

Did you see when Fuller was out against the Niners & Burgees had to play? There was a big difference in his play. In the Bears game he looked like a different player. His ankle got crunched.I’m always weary of those type of injuries.
That said he is a team leader type.Smart player who talks to players
calling out what he is seeing.I believe it might take him more towards mid-season he will really start to flash.

Very good post! I agree Terrell Burgess will play a very important part in this new DC's defense. In limited gms & snaps sure made CB David Long look like he belongs back in high school. Burgess is one talented DB! Rams have him listed as a SS but when you have made your top draft pick in 2019 Taylor Rapp you have no other need for a SS if he is healthy. Snead also selected FS/DS Nick Scott & versatile CB David long. Now all three of these DB's are entering their 3rd seasons. Long simply has not looked good @ any time period. On the other hand, Scott had a very good 2020 season & had many chances to showcase his very good speed & played in all of the Rams 2020 games with the defense. Nick Scott is on the rise!

But Snead did draft two more safeties in 2020 draft Terrell Burgess & Jordan Fuller. One is also more SS than FS/DS type but can play effectively @ the back end of the secondary when healthy that was Fuller. Burgess must have been stashed behind the other SS & was not let out until later & when he was on the field there was not a hotter or better safety. Then that bad broken ankle & foot injury just bad luck. That Packer gms would have been a different game if Burgess & Lewis had been healthy & playing in it.

What DC Morris has in his Safety cadre:
SS
Taylor Rapp 24/3 6-0/208
Jake Gervase 25/3 6-1 212
Jordan Fuller 24/2 6-2/203

Deep/Free Safety
Nick Scott 25/3 5-11/201
Terrell Burgess 22/2 5-11/202
Ju Ju Hughes 22/2 5-11/188

As you can clearly see DC Morris & Ejiro Evero have zero needs @ either safety posts particularly @ Strong Safety. The big problem is @ corner & which safety above can be a good Nickle-Back Corner for them. I believe strongly it should be Terrell Burgess!

He fits that Troy Hill/Robbie Coleman spot. - David Long & D.Williams both are able to play inside as well at times.
I like the diversity of The Rams DB’s
it always has been about next player up. I personally think your sleeping on David Long’s talent. He played well on special teams last season.I also look at who was starting ahead of him.RAMsey,Williams, & Hill which is a hard lineup to crack into.

Laters with McLeod, and I'm sure McVay feels the same after letting him loose after 2018. That guy was misjudging the long ball too often for my liking, and others here were also calling him out for it. He had a few screw ups in the NFCC vs Saints. I would be really surprised if the Rams brought him back. We're fine at safety without him.

On Burgess, loved the way he played in those few games and it sucked to see him injured. He is projected by some to start with Fuller but we'll see. If Rapp can stay healthy and get in there as starter or 3rd I wouldn't complain either. Rams look solid at safety with Scott as the 4th.

The curiosity I had on another thread was who of the Rams DBs takes the slot, or is he yet to be acquired. No need for an answer here really, I doubt any of us knows. Just waiting to see what happens at that spot.

Believe you are thinking about Lamarcus Joyner, and not Rodney McLeod.

As we have discussed before the way Staley played Ramsey was so perfect....if the opponents best WR lined up in the slot Ramsey was there if the best wideout lined up in the other two WR post-Ramsey was there & many times Ramsey was permitted to be the wild card & play any of the safety post assignments...once again the results was what we wanted.

Having that other corner to play outside is the key here if the Rams want the great results they got out of Ramsey in the 2021 season. Just signing a Nickle corner does not permit the Ramsey STAR position to be implemented as often. What is needed is a starting outside corner! Now if means utilizing that first draft selection on day two to get a starting outside corner ........then lets make it so!

I have always liked Scott since he was a rookie. When you look at him he has the speed to play outside CB. They really don't need a returner because Scott played very well in college as a returner with 6 returns for 138 yds (23 yd average). He's got outstanding speed at 4.43 and I've always wondered why he wasn't used in that role. I've been also wondering why he hasn't been converted over to CB as well.

His problem was he was green coming in. But that only means he was a blank slate. He played very well as a backup DB last year and he reminds me somewhat of how Darious Williams began. Darious came in with a background as a CB. Last year Scott played well and flashed enough to deserve some added consideration for playing time.

Interestingly enough he also played RB where his speed and versatility flashed again as well, i.e. 30 attempts for 133 yds, 4.4 yd average, and 4 receptions for 43 yds, he also was 2-2, 46 yards and one TD as a passer. The bottom line is that they have a very versatile player in Scott and IMO they simply need to use him.

Jake Gervase looks like a SS at 6'1", 212 lbs, running a 4.5 with a good 10 yd split a 1.53 and 3 cone of 6.8. All that would suggest the basic talent to match up with a TE or slot receiver. I also liked him coming in as a rookie who like Scott simply needed to be coached up as as a DB. He's shown good hands should the opportunity allow.

On the Dline they have Hoecht and Williams, both of whom I really like. At LB they have Moncrief, and Rozeboom, both of whom were highly regarded.

Again it shows what McVay inferred when he said that it's time for the young guys who have been practicing or playing in the background to step up and I think they have some good ones on this roster.

I know a lot of fans on "down" on Rapp but I like what we have.

I used to admire the Andy Reid Eagles way of drafting. They would draft a guy one year to replace an upcoming free agent a year or two. Always kept them fresh and rolling. His only problem was he could never draft good WRs. The Rams seem to be doing it that way. Safeties, OL, LB, TE, WR and of course they traded for Ramsey and Stafford. Just as good.

I’ll answer it as Burgees. Taylor Rapp is going to start ahead of whoever. He is going to be that good. His injuries have kept him off the field.
McLeod was a UDRFA that The Rams got a 3/4 rd pick for. Same with Corey Littleton this year. The point being Les Snead & Sean Mcvay finding & developing this players. The Rams had Deayon ,Juju, & 2 Georgia DB’s that stayed on the roster & practice squad.
It is a constant way The Rams are building this franchise. We as Fans sort of dial in to tight & don’t always see things from the wide-screen.

Well Burgees brings some of that inside out type. He is extremely diverse.
Say what you want, but as much as RAMsey lined up inside or outside. The Rams counter was Troy Hill. He played all over.In 2019 D.Williams & David Long did a little of the same in Wade’s defense.JJ was out for the 2nd half of the season.
Fuller is more of a zone safety & not so much of a FS. Nick Scott would play along with JJ. The Rams had all there DB’s play throughout games. David Long was the odd guy out.I can see him playing inside,or taking over for Troy Hill ??
From your earlier post you think that is The Rams biggest need.I was all in for The Rams to draft a WR.Now that DJ has been signed I’ll cross that off the list.I’ll add Kupp & Woods both restructuring & Brockers is out.
I do always think there is a need for DB’s. Minus JJ & Hill,so yes there is a need with the top 3 picks. All value & need.
DE/OLB has always been tops on my list.

I’ll start with Nick Scott. He is a special teams guy & FS type.No as a PR.Watson & DJ will handle that position.T. Jackson??BTW - D. Williams??
Jake G. was cut last season & brought back.Hard call, but he was on the game day roster.
Rozebom I like as possible player ?? Add Eric Banks with the DT’s.

LBer though The Rams have a lot of pieces.Kenny Young,Hollins,& Reeder all got quality playing time.

OO,T.Lewis,Robinson,Kiser,T.Howard were all hurt & need to step up.Just that addition of those players from start of 2020 were players The Rams were counting on.
—Greg Gaines continues to get better as well.

Should be a great competition. Having a new DC makes it a little more open competition. I had high hopes for Burgess last year. He is very solid coming downhill in run support and has excellent speed. Rapp should have a little chip on his should coming back from injury to prove he is a starter. Let's see how things playout. I do think the secondary will be solid. I would be surprised if Fuller loses his job. Solid depth helps as there seems it's hard to avoid injury.

I know your not a big fan of David Long. I get it, but Troy Hill really stepped up as a slot CB. This aloud RAMsey who you talk so much about moving outside was allotted.
D.Williams was a shut down CB as well, leaving it hard for Burgees & Long playing time. Add Fuller’s play as well who beat Burgees out as a safety.
The Rams almost resigned Troy Hill who most around here thought he should have been cut all the way back in 2018 & 2019.As well as going into the 2020 season.
