Good Morning all, it's a rainy day here in Northeast Iowa so Fall Harvest is on hold, and I'm stuck with my thoughts.

This has been something that I noticed last year and even the year prior and it has me still wondering this season, and I'd like to know if a time feels this way.

Keep in mind, I know we have certain players such as Donald, and Ramsey specifically that this excludes.

But, does if seem like this team lacks a certain toughness and roughness in the mentality of them? It seems like we lack the enforcers, the ones who want to impose their will. I see other teams and they just knock the snot out of teams physically and seem to have that alpha feel. And then there's us.. it seems like if push comes to shove, we're the ones getting shoved. It seems like we have a team that runs from contact rather than into it, especially on Defense.

And on Offense, if we start getting shoved around, it seems like our tails go right between our legs. It seems like we're easily thrown off and intimidated.

I feel like this team lacks a certain mentality, and I don't know how you even fix that. Frankly, I've thought that the last few seasons. Maybe it starts from the Coaching Staff or perhaps it's the players? I'm not sure.

It's just an observation I've noticed, whether it's right or wrong.

I agree, and frankly, I'm a little worried about how they respond. This will be a huge teller of the seasons story.

If that were true we'd get our asses kicked in the second half too. But they come out of halftime and usually are a lot better team than first half. Tells me they've got the toughness. Just need to clean up some of their crap in the first half for whatever reason.

Nah, I think this is made up intangible when describing teams that lost a game or a couple in a row. The most important thing is to remain disciplined and stay the course. Being overaggressive or whatever can lead to trouble (i.e., more flags, over compensating causing bad execution, etc).

They just need to do what works best for them based on the opponent. They'll be fine.

It can appear that way with a cerebral coaching staff. But they got me excited with their second half comeback in Buffalo. If we had Red Ryan coaching the defense maybe you would feel differently. But instead of in your face, beat up the opponent style of defense we've got a matchup guy who seems content to play soft early so he can diagnose the opponents attack.

On offense - that goes as Goff goes imo. If he's off early it sets the tone for the whole O. Getting ahead is crucial for this team. Execution is paramount.

This has been the Rams MO for a couple seasons now. Get down big and then come roaring back. It's a problem, Chargers and Falcons come to mind but just the opposite. THey do well in the first half and blow it in the second.
I think it's coaching and having a basic gameplan before the game starts. Then making their major adjustments. The 49ers game is a perfect example of this. Hell even the Buffalo game. Until we made our halftime adjustments we were totally and utterly out game planned and executed in until the 2nd half.

I also have to believe that some teams are just a bad matchup for us. The Rams aren't a Monster truck running over everyone in the NFL. They are a well oiled and tuned machine. Sometimes those sports cars get run over by a Mac Truck. Look at last years Ravens game. THey completely pushed us around. We were outmatched on every level in that game.

Yeah I see things the same way. The Rams are transitioning into a Patriots type model IMO. Smarter and more prepared situationally. Varied on both sides of the ball, where they can beat you different ways. What they're not is overpowering. They're gonna need better personnel at some spots for that on both sides of the ball.

But there's no way I wouldn't have done backflips if you'd told me we'd have this team prior to the season. Pretty fuckin happy right now.

Let me ask you a question @ottoman89...

If you were a pro football player, is that what YOU would do? Be one of those fiery types... pushing your man around all game... talking shit... relentless... win or lose?

Because, I see what you mean. When we are losing, I want to see fight, I want to see nastiness in their faces... making it clear we aint going away for the full 60. We may lose, but you won’t get a day off doing it.

I think this IS the Rams. But... I want it in full doses every time, too.

Here is a fun thought... if the Rams read the post by the OP. Do you think they’d be offended that we would question that?

I do.

So... what if I flipped it to describe us... how does it feel;

But, does if seem like this board lacks a certain toughness and roughness in the mentality of them? When we are losing, only, of course. It seems like we lack confidence, like fans who crumble easy and leave in the 3rd quarter.

And in Off Topic, if we get too bung up in the CoViD thread, it seems like our tails go right between our legs. It seems like we're easily thrown off and intimidated.

I feel like this board lacks a certain resilience when we lose. Frankly, I've thought that the last few seasons. Maybe it starts from the Admins or perhaps it's the moderators? I'm not sure.

Yeah... feels like shit, eh?

SO LETS TOUGHEN UP MOTHER FUCKERS! I’m playing that role right now!

We lost to the 49’ers. BIG FUCKING DEAL. They were in the SB last year after all.

Buckle up! Let’s go win Monday!

I'm a fiery, edgy, competitive person naturally. I feel like it I was blessed with that position in life, I'd wear my emotions on my sleeves as I do now, but I don't know how to answer that without being in that position.

I understand losing happens, but I hate to see it sometimes feel like they're OK with it, which I'm sure they're not.

The players probably think we're fucking crazy lol. Since we don't know so many things going on behind the scenes a lot of our takes are probably insane to them. If they even gave a fuck what we think in the first place. :beer2::ROFLMAO:

ima be honest, I think we are soft. Especially on offense. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Last loss to the 49ers kinda solidified it for me.

McVay is a great coach and Snead is a great good GM, but we have no Dogs on offense. Nobody who is built for damage, to get hit and still make a play. OUr offense is built on finesse and as little contact as possible.

Our WRs are good dont get me wrong, but theyre not big guys nor are they athletic freaks.

When I look at our competition AnD at the elite teams in the League, they have guys who are big and can make plays.

Say what you want about the 49ers, Kittle is a dog. Deebo is a dog. Mostert was carrying our defenders for 4 yards.

Hawks have DK who is a tank and Lockett who is a speedster.

Chiefs can outrun everybody but worse come to worse, Kelce can make a play in the seams and take a hit.

Bucs have Gronk, Godwin and Evans. All big bodies.

We have Everett and Higs. Dont know why McVay doesnt use them more. A dangerous TE game is a necessity in todays league.

I think the offense is transitioning. From a unit where McVay had to use misdirection, screen and boot actions to keep the QB safe behind a shaky front, to a unit where the OL looks above average in both pass pro and run action.

And in fact the run game is not yet functioning as well as it will IMO.

McVay needs to adjust, basically. He's got a better line than anticipated, so he can adjust his scheming and play calls on gameday. But that's not something that will happen overnight. It will build. And hopefully in the next month of tough defenses we'll be seeing some of that transition starting with a good showing vs da Bears.
