Rapp is a downhill Strong Safety, does that sound like JJ3 ??

I've seen a few articles were the Rams say they want to resign JJ3, and when the Rams say it, it normally happens.

Trade the young man ah No, we wouldn't get the value of the pick at this point.

No! Of course, As they say, Everyone has a Price! But, I really, think the Rams have a great chance of competing for the NFL Championship this year so why take a chance on trading/losing one of your up and coming young stars (Who, Also seems to be a very classy, intelligent, humble player!)?!

This^, love Johnson, but you can't keep everybody, however, if there was not cap, the Rams actually could.
Probably right but John Johnson is my 2021 free agent hope.

My 2020 free agent hope was Cory Littleton, and that did not work out.

Figure Everett, Ebukam and Reynolds will be lost but hoping they can retain Johnson.

When the Rams went to the Super Bowl in 2018, I thought their three best defensive players were Donald (duh), Littleton and Johnson; and thought his season-ending 2019 injury was a major loss.

I do wonder if we overrated his first season. He made plays and made some mistakes too. I'm interested to see how much he plays this year.
Rams may be easing him back from preseason injury as he is getting less than a quarter of the snaps. It could be Kenny Young's play is limiting Rapp's reps. Burgess played strong safety in college and is very fast with cover skills. Something to watch. I wonder how the Rams feel about him taking over for JJ next year.
Reason I threw the question out there is the scheme fit. Rapp is a fine young player. I love the guy. But I'm not so sure his sideline status is solely due to getting injured. This scheme prioritizes breaking on shit from the top for its safeties which is his weakess. He is at his best in run support and manning up on occasion.

Since the draft brought in two safeties I have been of the mind that JJ leaves in FA and Rapp is part of our future tandem. But as we go forward I am less certain of that. Now I find myself thinking some team may be looking at how loaded we are and try to shake a good young player loose.

I don't like moving good players but if the fit is an issue and a team really makes a run for him my hope is we get a round 2 pick back. Unlikely but you never know.

Lastly someone mentioned Corbett but I don't feel he is a good comp in terms of what to expect in this type of hypothetical exercise. Corbett was beat out two years in a row and never flashed on film. Rapp put up excellent film as a starter right out the gate in a defense that fit him. He is a legit starter in that conversation.

I would be stunned if the Rams traded Rapp away. Just stunned.

I think they really like him and his upside.

The ONLY way that it’s at all conceivable to me is IF some team dangled a quality player in front of them that the Rams were convinced was some ‘missing piece’ that would complete their quest to become a SB favorite.

Right now, that player would almost have to be a true quality Edge player. Even then, cap issues might arise.

Barring such a thing, I see Rapp as a Ram for at least his first 4 year contract.

Judging from the responses you're not alone in that. :beer2:

I don't think this is likely, rather just a possibility. But any time you see a move of a good young player it's usually fit related and there are usually guys in-house that the team sees as being good options to handle the job. Some of the indicators are there to make it worth considering IMO.

Nothings wrong with having 3 quality safeties. I don’t think there’s anyone that would value Rapp enough to give us a game changer.

John Johnson is so intelligent, quick, and has a great, congenial sense of leadership. He's like the perfect piece for McVay's culture. He'd be a much bigger loss than just onfield physical talent if we can't keep him....

I tend to agree with this right now. But going to wait to see how things unfold since it's still so early. He's definitely fitting really well in this scheme though.

Re: his contract I've thought all along he would be a potential tag option, but with all the cash on the books now that might not be an option any longer. He probably needs a carefully shaped contract for us to retain him.

A trade makes no sense given that JJ is likely to leave via free agency. Rapp is a great chess piece for Staley right now. Taylor Rapp isn’t going anywhere!

The Rams defense is going to need to dedicate a spy (and a damn good one) for QB's like Josh Allen, Kyler Murray, Russell Wilson, Cam Newton and possibly in the BOWL vs Patrick Mahomes or Lamar Jackson.

Is Rapp going to be in the rotation for being a spy vs those QB's? Is he even capable or fast enough to be considered?

I thought he was before the season started because of his instincts and sound tackling.

As far a trading Rapp? Only if the value exceeds expectation which it's way too early to know right now.

I'm guessing his snap count goes up in Buffalo but I don't have enough knowledge of

Brandon Staley's defensive scheme to know how Rapp fits the puzzle over the next 3 or 4 games.

I hope Rapp is fully healthy now and doesn't get frustrated by the Rookie Jordan Fuller's emergence.

Nothing wrong with Fuller emerging, we can use all the good players we can get. Gives us more options moving forward. If Rapp gets frustrated, he needs to bust his butt and get more time on the field. Hopefully he has the mindset to do just that.

I'd be looking at a comparable CB, if Rapp was involved in trade talks. Rather have better depth there.
