Talib can still play and his leadership is valuable. But the Rams need to decide whether we are "real contenders" this season or not and move on from there. Teams that are "in the hunt" rarely win the super bowl. We went all in last season and I don't care to trade away future draft capital to try to make the playoffs this season if we can suck it up this year and be contenders after next season's draft.

But that ship has sailed so I hope McVay an Snead called it right. I trust in them.

Dealing Talib doesn't free up more money for next year.

He isn't under contract.

You can roll over unused cap space just they did with Peters. They saved $5M on Peters, which could be rolled into next year.

The only teams that might take him would be New England or KC, teams that plan on being relevant the last month when Talib is available. The Pats because he was there before and the Chiefs because rhey need CBs.

Now we would likely only get a 7th, but the biggest reason to move him is to get some cap relief for next season.

He had I believe an $8M salary this year. So if you can unload him for 8 weeks, you pick up $4M of that which they would roll into next year's cap.

However they can't just release him because his salary is guaranteed. So the only thing they could do to get cap space back is to trade him.

Just keep him for the remainder of the year so we can see him and Ramsey play together and let him walk when the season is over.

Rams to shop expensive veterans, offered CB Aqib Talib a trade
Oh boy. The Rams may not be done making moves!

Per a report from ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Los Angeles Rams could be shopping veterans in hopes of freeing cap space to potentially make another trade:
Sources: Rams open to dealing Aqib Talib, other veterans to free up payroll to try to pay Jalen Ramsey.https://t.co/2SiUkIs3Yn
— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) October 27, 2019
This is what Schefter said in the article:
The Rams still could be open to moving on from veteran players in the last year of their contracts as part of an effort to free up more money for a player like Jalen Ramsey
Now, we’re not entirely sure what that means. It could mean one of two things: First, it could mean the Rams are trying to free up cap space to pay Ramsey, though that doesn’t really make any sense, or it could mean the Rams are trying to free up cap space to acquire another player LIKE Ramsey, and that makes a lot more sense.

Cornerback Aqib Talib was the one name Schefter mentioned in the article as a potential player on the move, and even stated the Rams shopped Talib and asked him if he preferred to be dealt last week, though Talib declined.

The ability to trade Talib would likely be tough as he’s currently on injured reserve, and won’t be eligible to return until Week 16, giving whoever his new team is only two games of service (and more if the playoffs are in the conversation).

Moving Talib would free up roughly $4m in cap space, though we don’t exactly know what the Rams would use it for.

The potential to trade for another impact player makes sense, particularly at positions like offensive line, inside linebacker, defensive line, or even another cornerback.Stay tuned for updates.

Why wouldn't it make sense to clear cap space for Ramsey? (and I know you were posting an article) If the Rams feel that they have players who can perform as well as Talib is likely to play after coming back from a serious injury, then saving money so they can resign players for next season makes sense. Add in some sort of token draft pick (perhaps a 6th rounder? :p ) and that could be a win for the Rams. If they approached him about a deal, then some team must have been interested.

Amén. I don’t think it’s realistic but I see this as his final years with us either way.

Not real easy but do-able with a trio of defenders like a resigned RFA DE Morgan Fox for the experience needed to go with young mean & unmovable young DT Marquise Copeland (Practice Squad) & ER Og Okoronkwo ..........all coming in @ a much less salary cap hit close to $10 million saved! (y):giggle:

We may have different methods towards reaching our DL goals as I look forward to replacing Brockers with a 5&3T DE/DT high in the 2020 draft, that in conjunction with our ascending group of young Edge OLB'ers will offer Wade several options. I'm not as big on Fox as you appear to be, although as an RFA I do expect his return as a competitor for the rotation, along with Copeland & the IR'd Lawler. We do agree on Copeland, I'd like to see him getting some real time experience, but unless Brockers is moved before tomorrow, that's not likely. We should also be about done with the Tanzil Smart experiment. jmo.

I understand wanting to get a pick, but we don't have anyone who can do a quarter of what Brockers can do.

It's the same. Yes it does suck
I thought a fracture was when the bone is partially broken, but still intact (connected). And that broken is when it fully breaks apart into one or more pieces.

I've been wrong about that???

So they "traded" Talib and a fifth for cap room...Seems like a pretty smart deal to me...
