By the time Talib was placed on IR for the rib injury he was already just a shell of what he was last season. Its seems typical that when long time starting corners hit 32 to 33 they Begin a sharp decline rapidly. Talib will be 34 yrs old around the time this season SB takes place. His overall play this season has been fair but his tackling has suffered most.

Talib has been giving up large chunks of cushions for some time. I believe that Talib does not want to play anymore & he would prefer to ride this season out where he is on the injured reserve (a place he has been a lot lately) & retire in 2020 since he will be a UFA & is no longer under Rams contract. I do not think that Talib can play better now than Troy Hill anyway.

The reason the Rams would like to unload him is that $8 million that he is collecting while he is relaxing in the pool. No other NFL team will touch Talib @ that cost.

So supposedly the Rams want to trade him and "other vets" but he is injured and does not want to be traded. I see that as being unlikely - and other vets are likely to be more valuable to the Rams than other teams. Maybe Brockers - but they would need to get more for him than he is worth to the Rams this season PLUS the value of the comp pick they will get when he goes free agent after the season. Unlikely. The Rams are contenders, not a crappy team looking to get what value they can for vets they won't resign.

Dealing Talib doesn't free up more money for next year.

He isn't under contract.
My guess is that they're willing to deal him and other players, who will free up cap space.

If Rams trade a vet they need, like Brockers, they know that this "is not the year".....Trading Talib is just some cash for signing bonus or something....they will give someone a 7 to trade him, lol.

By the way, maybe they do not "need" Brockers, except vs Ravens, 49ers Seattle :)

IMO they really like Williams. Who played vs Atlanta and was invisible in a good way. And they have Long waiting in the wings. With Talib being a FA, this isn't a huge surprise.

Also you know this will pi$$ Talib off in a good way. I'm sure he knows he hasn't played his best ball this season so maybe he returns like he did last year with some lights-out play. He is still capable of that I think.

If they trade Brockers - which I do not expect - it would be for somebody they feel they need more - an OL for instance. Cap savings or some sort of pick would be nice, but it doesn't happen without somebody who fills another need.

Why would anyone trade for a relatively old CB on injured reserve until week 15 I think who isn’t signed next year? Seems like a ridiculous rumor. For us I see it as something we’d want to do because that cap space we save this year can be moved to next year if there are any savings (haven’t looked at numbers). But again why would another team do that?

From the article, there was already one try and Talib vetoed it.

So, we at least know that there is at least tepid interest and Talib wants to stay.

Hope he comes back on fire.

I broke my ribs from a side kick. Took over 3 months to heel up solid. Sneezing was utter hell the 1st month after breaking them. Well, actually, was a fracture. Broken rib may be worse.
