Should this have been an unnecessary roughness call?

You must maintain possession of the runner all the way to the ground to be awarded a body slam.
Robert Quinn lost possession of the runner on the way to the ground.
You can plainly see the runner come loose.
This body slam was incomplete.

Eh. I did not think it was a penalty at the time. I still don't, but Quinn did apply the extra mustard. That brought out the call.

Not to mention, the refs were behind their quota at the time.

If Quinn just tackled him...no flag, but he picked him off the ground and slammed him

it was borderline with the whistle

thats a flag

Some may not like my take, but I think it was a penalty.

Once in the grasp like Quinn had him (there was no forward progress), Quinn should have just let him go.

You see it all the time with the Rams defenders... they have the opponent stopped and they just let him go.

Now.. the whistle thing? Again, I put that on Quinn... he should have just kept holding him until the whistle came in.

He knows better and I'm sure Phillips will be pointing that out to him on film this week.
It is ludicrous to think that a player can just stop in the middle of an act. Plus he let him go when the whistle blew and he landed on the ground. This and AD's roughing the passer that Tripplet called is fucking pussifiying football. Then the Arron Rodgers injury wasn't called a penalty, it was later than AD's. I have to stop it just gets me going.

While it's tough for Quinn to stop mid-motion, it didn't look like he even slowed down after the whistle. Since the league has a strong interest in preventing needless injuries, I would say it should have been called.

Of course, I want those to go for the Rams, also.

Fournette wasn't going down easy. Quinn did everything he could to get him down while keeping Fournette from advancing. The tackle looked pretty tame imo.
BS call.

One thing must be remembered. It takes about two seconds for the human mind to process and react to a situation...Quinn had picked up Fournette in the process of the body slam when the whistle was blown. Just as a boxer is throwing a punch when the bell rings and hits the opponent, it can't be helped really. btw..If you are Old enough to remember a certain Olympics, Evander Holyfield threw a punch at the bell and knocked the foreigner out. Refs disqualified Holyfield in the fight and was counted as a loss, and he got the freakin Bronze Medal...even though he was the best boxer in these final matches by a country mile.

Anyway Francis, we are playing football!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I don't believe that particular play could have been declared the suplex it did not have the lift and slam to the back. I thought the whistle was late and no way in hell do I ever tell my defensive players to "just let him go" that's nonsense and a good way to get scored on. Put his butt on the ground.

I knew the penalty was coming while I watched the tackle. Still think its a crap call. I'd rather Quinn make that hit than all the terrible arm tackling I saw the first couple drives.

They called it roughing, so the whistle didn't matter. Guess they figured that was too physical, which is wasn't because he didn't even really get slammed into the ground. Quinn pulled up when tossing him. Now had he gone full suplex or not let off on tossing him sure I could see a penalty there, but he did neither.

BS call.

If the defender wants to deliver a hit thats one thing but to throw him at the whistle is pointless and will draw flags. You have him stopped the whistle blows, no need to throw him. Should have hit him and drove him to the ground instead of grabbibg him, stopping him then throwing him.

I honestly don't understand how some of you could watch that video and think its a penalty.. its baffling...

Listen to when the whistle is blown and when Quinn swings him... its after he already started.

It's 100% not a penalty... fournette doesn't even hit the ground that hard either.

Such a bad call. Here is this running back who has been break tackles all season. His feet are churning he's trying to break free from you. The only thing you can do is take him down. If the NFL wants to call that a penalty the play should be blown dead the second he is wrapped up. No more moving the pile, wrapped up, play blown dead.

I also thought it was illegal to do the whole move the pile play. With the lineman basically pushing the running back forward through the defenders. ?

Any wrestlers out there? Quinn is a wrestler. Is this take down something you could do in a wrestling match? Mostly just curious.

Cant pick him up and throw him down.

The whistle went off and Fucknutz still had one/both feet down.

I don't like the rule, probably most don't.

But it's against the rules.
