I knew the Rams defense has gone through a lot of changes in the last couple of years but after taking a look at the box score I didn’t register that 9 of the 13 defensive players that registered a stat in the 2019 super bowl are gone:

Suh
Littleton
Fowler
Barron
Peters
Talib
NRC
Joyner
Franklin

The only ones remaining are:
Donald
Brockers
Ebukam
Johnson

Until I saw it in writing it didn’t truly register what an overhaul it was. And by all accounts that was a pretty damn good defense in that game.

Peters played a hell of a Super Bowl and actually was excellent in the postseason.

But One could argue that Ramsey and Hill are an upgrade at the corners. Especially when you consider Peters inconsistency and Talib’s age and injury. We played half the season without him.
Suh is getting real old and had a medicocre season for us as well.

Littleton and Fowler were plus players but both could be liabilities vs the run and we might see a better run defense.

Barron was replaced by Rapp and that looks like an improvement.

I personally hated letting NRC go and feel we may really regret that. He covered a lot of ground and was very instinctual along with being an excellent tackler in space in my book.

We need to land some draft picks. Namely ILB and edge rusher.

Out of the group you listed, Littleton is the greatest loss IMO. The other guys have been replaced with better options, outside of Fowler. I was not personally sold on him. This season will be a tell to his abilities without AD providing pressure for him.

I am very hopeful between Ebukam, Oko, Polite, Holland, Floyd, Carraway we have OLB/Edge talent on the roster. We have to add some pieces to ILB and depth at CB, S.

Westbrooks is also gone.

Rapp now replaces Joyner

Littleton replaced Barron?

Who replaces Littleton is the big question?

I wish the Rams kept NRC too. The Rams remade the defense on the fly. It wasn't going to stay the same for long but, this is a lot of changes in a short time period. Looks like they did a good job remaking the defense again. They have to find the ILBer and another Edge soon to make it a complete defense.

Most of these players are in line with the majority of NFL players that journey around the league before retiring, maybe they have a career year or two. Those are outlier seasons though. All of these dudes are replaceable.
