About Higbee.

This next draft is reportedly rich in TE’s. Just saying.
Higs looks like his body is starting to give up. Keep him next year, but it’s time to find the next starting TE and groom him. If Hopkins makes a leap, count it as a bonus.

I didn’t watch the game but it’s becoming clear besides a total revamp of the OL the Rams need to find a TE, 2 CBs (move Ramsey to SS), a WR2, stud Edge and a bruiser RB (to augment Akers/Williams). No small order.

Well, that should be easy with a pick in the mid-30s and one in the mid-60s, plus a small amount of cap space.

Actually they can create cap space..it will open a few more holes because it means they let Floyd & Wagner walk, but they can open up 20-25M with a few moves and a restructure or two.

Wagner ain't going anywhere. He's still pretty damn good. Floyd, mos definitely needs to go.

About Higbee.

Appears that a well-rounded TE is creeping higher in need in 2023. A ton of salary cap $$$ has been invested for a long time in Tyler Higbee. Very little dividends, so disappointing.

It also is evident that letting TE Johnny Mundt depart was a big mistake in hindsight. Mundt's blocking has upped the Viking's offensive success. Mundt has played close to 50 % of the Offensive snaps this season starting 9 gms. Making big blocks! Higbee has turned into a Ghost with his poor efforts in blocks.

If the Rams finally see some luck come their way & some hard luck NFL team takes a chance on our DC Morris as an HC ...Snead will get two 3rd round selections in the 2023 & 2024 Drafts. We sure could use them much more than we can use DC Morris & his defensive schemes.

DL Coach Henderson has shown he can coach up his unit's UDFA's Mike Hoecht, Jonah Williams & Marquise Copeland.

I would not be surprised if the Rams suffer the big loss of Coach Henderson when this deplorable season is finally dead. One thing we do know is Hoecht gives all his recent success credit to Coach Henderson.

Dude couldn't get separation vs KC and ended up getting injured.
For all his promise in preseason, he has more injuries than catches and has done nothing in his limited time.
Still a guy that needs more time I think.
There was a reason he was replaced by Trammell....very different players, but, Trammell will likely hang onto those reps.
He can get open.
What's wrong preseason promise?

Sincerely, Nelson Spruce

I'd still hang onto Higbee for another year or two even if we do get a good TE in the draft, as that's a position that takes a couple years to really get good at on the NFL level. Hig's veteran presence would be valuable until a new guy is up to speed.

I think that's the plan by the Rams @ this time since they have Higbee on the payroll until 2026.

Brycen Hopkins will be entering his last season 4th under contract in 2023, and So will TE Jared Pinkney. I would think both have stewed long enough to start or to increase thier snaps into thier 4th seasons.

TE/WR Jacob Harris will be entering his 3rd NFL season.

I think Higbee's struggles this year have a lot to do with injuries.
The Rams don't have TE depth to do anything but run him out there apparently .
The last month or so he has been......not good. This does coincide with a couple of injuries he suffered.

I must say, joking aside, some of the staffs handling of young players does make one question their objective evaluation.
Understanding that some guys are better practice players than others.
Its not an easy task but some of the moves are head scratchers.
Kenricks, Rapp's role, Kolone, Evans, Tutu not getting a shot until he was forced in by injuries.....very strange.

Coaches miss, sometimes.. and I think they many times focus too much on what a specific player *can't* do, instead of what they can.

I think that's especially true in Tutu's case.

The Hoecht thing is interesting.. but I think one thing we should all be real about is that he's NOT an OLB. They've dropped him a few times.. but he just doesn't move in space well enough to cover anyone. They started running three safeties more in the second half.. and I think that was driven, in part, by Hoecht. He's closer to a 4-3 DE.. and big for that role, to be honest. But I'm glad he's performing well.. I've been a fan for a while.

What's this? The Rams haven't had a hurt OL in two straight games now?

shocked the princess bride GIF
And we also fielded our most veteran offensive line and almost won the game.
