SJ's bad luck would probably result in the Patriots going 1 and done in the playoffs. But if we get a terrible match-up like NE vs. Seattle in the Super Bowl again, I'd at least have someone to root for.

I rooted for Kurt Warner when he played for the Cardinals, I rooted for Ike when he went to the 49ers, but there is no way in hell I could EVER root for the Patriots.

Darn. I was hoping they would sign him before clinching a playoff spot. So Jackson's magic would keep them from getting in.

Patriots try out Steven Jackson

After word emerged of veteran running back Steven Jackson visiting the Patriots, coach Bill Belichick opted to “go out on a high note” in lieu of addressing the subject during his Wednesday press conference.

At some point on Wednesday, however, Jackson indeed had that visit with the Patriots. Per a league source, it was an actual tryout.

It’s a rare tire kicking for Jackson, who still wants to play in the NFL but has drawn little or no interest. With the Patriots, Jackson would have a chance to build on his credentials as No. 18 on the all-time rushing list, and he’d be able to play in the postseason for the first time since his rookie year of 2004. (Even with that playoff appearance, Jackson has never been on a team with a winning record.)

For now, the Patriots have yet to add him to the roster. There’s a chance they never will. But he’d definitely give them the kind of between-the-tackles punch that they’re now lacking with LeGarrette Blount on injured reserve — assuming that Jackson showed during his workout the same kind of talent he displayed while racking up 11,388 rushing yards.
--------
Do this BB. NOW! It may take him 2-3 games to get in game shape. But well worth it if he avoids injury. This guy can be a monster when healthy & motivated. Plus he already knows Josh McDaniel’s blocking and blitz protection schemes. He was always a vastly superior runner over LeGarrette Blount. So make it happen boys.
--------
I’ve always liked Steven Jackson and Belichick has a knack for getting the most out of veteran players. If Jackson has any gas left in the tank at all, the Pats are a perfect landing spot for him.
-------
Good luck with that. Jackson looked like the tank was empty two seasons before he retired.

Of course, if there’s a team that could revive his career, it’s probably NE.

But move has the stink of desperation about it.
--------
He’s 6’2″ and 240 at age 32. He’s definitely a Belichick type guy: Blount, Antowain Smith, Corey Dillon. Dillon was a little lighter but they were all older vets that safties and corners hate to tackle.
--------
I say sign him just so Irsay, Grigson, and Pagano have nightmares of him running over their linebackers and secondary.
--------
Let go of a little bit of homer and look at the reality of Steven Jackson situation. The Falcons needed a running back in the worst way 2 years in a row and he didn’t prove nothing, the Rams moved on 3 years ago with rookies at RB.

Anyone remember St Louis Cards RB Otis Anderson? He & Steven were about the same size and ran somewhat the same.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ottis_Anderson

Drafted in the first round like Steven in 1979 and played very late in his career for the NYG and won Super Bowl XXV, and was named Super Bowl MVP in 1991 a bit older than Steven is now.

IMO, I am fine with Steven signing with the Pats and having a chance to play deep into the playoffs. Thanks for all those losing yrs as a Ram Steven,(y) go get it done!
I'm a fan of Ottis and was pleased when he got that MVP award as he deserved it! He won't get to it but I'd love to see him in the Hall of Fame! SJ, too!

Report: Patriots to sign veteran running back Steven Jackson today

The Patriots are trying to go out on a high note, and they’re bringing in a veteran to try to help them.

According to Josina Anderson of ESPN, the Patriots are signing running back Steven Jackson today.

The Patriots worked him out last week, but didn’t make an immediate move. The 32-year-old Jackson was neither great nor awful last year with Atlanta, averaging 3.7 yards per carry.

But that’s better than Joey Iosefa and Brandon Bolden put on the board yesterday against the Titans (3.6 yards per carry each), as the Patriots look for an alternative after losing Dion Lewis and LeGarrette Blount for the year to injuries.

It’s been some time since Jackson has looked like a feature back, but in the Patriots’ approach, they don’t necessarily need one.

He's lost his burst through the whole, but he can still block. He will keep Brady clean.

Yep, they'll use him to his strengths. He was amazing at pass pro and he's got decent hands. Will make a nice dump off valve target for Brady when needed. I like he'll get a chance at playoff glory despite the fact he's on the Patriots. But I still don't want them to win the super bowl despite him lol.

I'm so torn. I've always wanted Steven to get his Super Bowl. Just not with those scumbags.
