Patriots try out Steven Jackson

After word emerged of veteran running back
Steven Jackson visiting the Patriots, coach Bill Belichick opted to “go out on a high note” in lieu of addressing the subject during his Wednesday press conference.
At some point on Wednesday, however, Jackson indeed had that visit with the Patriots. Per a league source, it was an actual tryout.
It’s a rare tire kicking for Jackson, who still wants to play in the NFL but has drawn little or no interest. With the Patriots, Jackson would have a chance to build on his credentials as No. 18 on the all-time rushing list, and he’d be able to play in the postseason for the first time since his rookie year of 2004. (Even with that playoff appearance, Jackson has never been on a team with a winning record.)
For now, the Patriots have yet to add him to the roster. There’s a chance they never will. But he’d definitely give them the kind of between-the-tackles punch that they’re now lacking with
LeGarrette Blount on injured reserve — assuming that Jackson showed during his workout the same kind of talent he displayed while racking up 11,388 rushing yards.

Do this BB. NOW! It may take him 2-3 games to get in game shape. But well worth it if he avoids injury. This guy can be a monster when healthy & motivated. Plus he already knows Josh McDaniel’s blocking and blitz protection schemes. He was always a vastly superior runner over LeGarrette Blount. So make it happen boys.
--------
I’ve always liked Steven Jackson and Belichick has a knack for getting the most out of veteran players. If Jackson has any gas left in the tank at all, the Pats are a perfect landing spot for him.
-------
Good luck with that. Jackson looked like the tank was empty two seasons before he retired.
Of course, if there’s a team that could revive his career, it’s probably NE.
But move has the stink of desperation about it.
--------
He’s 6’2″ and 240 at age 32. He’s definitely a Belichick type guy: Blount, Antowain Smith, Corey Dillon. Dillon was a little lighter but they were all older vets that safties and corners hate to tackle.
--------
I say sign him just so Irsay, Grigson, and Pagano have nightmares of him running over their linebackers and secondary.
--------
Let go of a little bit of homer and look at the reality of Steven Jackson situation. The Falcons needed a running back in the worst way 2 years in a row and he didn’t prove nothing, the Rams moved on 3 years ago with rookies at RB.
