Not surprising considering his age and injury issues. Hope the Rams sign him for one day so he can retire as a Ram.

The guy is a fucking warrior. He deserves to be in the HOF just for what he had to endure. Could have been one of the best ever if not for the pile of shit teams he was on. Classy guy and knew how to play the game. Will always be my favorite Ram.

I could live with SJ roaming the sidelines again. I'd just like to see him retire in horns.

He's still good in certain situations, like at the end of the game when you have to run the clock out, or in short yardage spots. He's not going to get much money from anyone if he keeps playing though.

Would love to have him back, if nothing but for his leadership & fire. He can come in in short yardage, goal-line situations, etc. He used to be awesome catching passes out of the backfield, not sure anymore but I think he'd still be a nice weapon for us. Grinding out the clock??? brutal. Much rather see him than Tre Mason in that situation.

After his rocky start (he was a kid) and the hold-out, he transformed himself into the one of the all-time great Rams.

In fact, he IS the all-time Rams rushing leader.
When you stop and think about how many great RBs the franchise has pumped out over the years (Faulk, Dickerson, McCutcheon, Bass), that's pretty darned impressive to me.

I've had some "spirited" discussions with fans over the years (not here) about him.

Maybe it was the hold-out ( I was pretty upset with him at the time)... but he grew up and put the team first and - many times - on his shoulders.

To me, he deserves respect because he's earned it.

Really unfortunate he was never on winning teams.

I think he does deserve to be in the HOF and I hope he makes it there as a Ram.

Jackson was pretty "meh" in short yardage. Loved the dude but his game did not lend itself to short yardage.

Dude was crazy underrated in his pass blocking skills in the later years.

Steven Jackson is nearing the end of the road

After 11 seasons and 11,388 rushing yards, Falcons running back Steven Jackson appears to be near the end of the road.

Jackson will turn 32 in July and has averaged 3.7 and 3.5 yards a carry in the last two years — the two lowest yards-per-carry averages of his 11-year career. Combine that with the fact that Jackson is owed $3.75 million this year, and it’s easy to see why ESPN says Jackson is likely to be released.

New Falcons offensive coordinator Kyle Shanahan has said that any type of running back can succeed in his offense. If that’s true, the Falcons will surely join the growing numbers of NFL teams that decline to pay much money at the running back position. Younger, cheaper options like Jacquizz Rodgers and Devonta Freeman would make a lot more sense as the 1-2 punch in Atlanta than the aging and expensive Jackson. (Antone Smith, who showed some promise for the Falcons last year, becomes a free agent next month.)

Assuming that Jackson is released, he likely wouldn’t have a very big market for his services. The running back position has been devaluated to the point that teams are rarely even willing to pay big money to the running backs who are in their primes, let alone those like Jackson who are past their primes. It’s entirely possible that we’ve seen the last of Steven Jackson.

Also how dare he leave when he wasn't wanted, he should have done the honorable thing and sit wastig away in the bottom of the depth chart.

Think he is interested in and capable of coaching?

I'm not sure. He never really seemed like the coaching type to me. Great guy, but I think he has other avenues he wants to explore, like painting and travelling and other stuff, I think he has an art gallery now. He never really took to mentoring any guys from what I remember. I just don't see it, but he's a very intelligent guy and could do it if he wanted.

Isn't that something of an exaggeration? As I recall it he was asked to take a "reduced role". IMO, his departure had more to do with his refusal to not be the "bell cow" and wanting to play for a "winner" than it did with him not being wanted by the current staff.

I'd like to live in a world where that was a way we got him his ring.
