Damn - this looked absolutely effortless.
It is reported at 99mph - but sure doesn't look like it would have been!

Considering the average bloke can only clock around 40-50mph that is impressive.
(yeah, I know a football is a lot bigger - but that is good right there!)

Stafford looked good throwing it. His mechanics were good and there was no hesitation because he knew he could place it where he wanted. No, it probably wasn't 99 mph, but he was also being careful with his shoulder, because he doesn't throw a baseball regularly with intention anymore.

If could throw 99 he ain't throwing that speed to Kershaw. Good pitch though. Nice accuracy. After throwing a football all these years a baseball's gotta feel like a grape in his hand.

Especially when he faced Reggie Jackson and struck that bastid out!
Instead of remembering Welch striking out Jackson to close-out Game 2, giving the Dodgers a 2-0 Series lead, I prefer the memory of Jackson's 2-run-HR against Welch in Game 6 that closed-out the Yankees' 4th straight victory to secure their second-straight World Series win over the Dodgers.

But that's just me.

I need to find it but there’s a great clip of Calvin Johnson talking about his very first practice with Stafford and trying to get used to the velocity on the football and his arm strength. If he spent a few months working at his mechanics and throwing a baseball, I think he hits upper 90s with no sweat.

I did not think anyone could throw a football 99 MPH. I guess I was wrong, does anyone know of another QB that can do that.

My father grew-up within walking distance of Yankee Stadium.

My first game, our seats were behind this giant pillar. The old Stadium had these huge pillars that obstructed views. My father gave an usher a tip/bribe for better seats, and we got terrific seats. The Yankees were really bad back then; and the crowds were too small to be called a "crowd".

That tip/bribe ... I shit-you-not ... was $1.

I saw a game there 2002, or at least previous version of Yankee stadium. We had seats in outfield bleachers and were told they were not actually Yankee stadium. Where I had to park my tour bus was several blocks from the entrance and I passed a McDonalds with 12ft fencing with barbed wire on top. I was wearing my bus driver uniform and I still don't know how I didn't get rolled that night.

After a long day of seeing NYC shyte, watching the game, I still had to drive to Cleveland, OH. That was illegal as hell and I didn't work for company for long afterwards.

That would have been the refurbished Old Yankee Stadium.

The original stadium (built in the 1920s) was refurbished in the mid-1970s. The Yankees played at Shea Stadium for two full years.

My first experiences at Yankee Stadium go back to the late-1960s.

I’m glad you weren’t assaulted.

That was Bob Lemon in '78 my friend.

Actually, despite my Yankee fandom, I was never much of a Billy Martin fan. Played favorites and abused starting pitchers. And, apparently, not a nice guy.
