Rams QB Matthew Stafford leaves practice with hamstring issue

Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford experienced hamstring tightness and did not finish Wednesday's joint practice against the Dallas Cowboys, a team official told reporters.
Rams quarterbacks Jimmy Garoppolo and Stetson Bennett took over reps for approximately the second half of the practice as Stafford, 36, watched from the sideline.
"[Stafford] operates at a world-class level," offensive coordinator Mike LaFleur said. "But we know that every rep is going to be valuable for him, no matter how many plays he's had. Unfortunately, he had some tightness."
Garoppolo, who signed with Los Angeles in March to back up Stafford, worked with the first-team offense after Stafford's exit, the reps having added significance as Garoppolo is unlikely to play in the preseason games.
"Anytime you get those ops, particularly against a defense like this with all the players they got, is going to be valuable," LaFleur said.
Garoppolo is suspended for the first two games of the season for violating the NFL's performance-enhancing substances policy.
Bennett took snaps with the backups three days after he threw four interceptions before leading a last-minute touchdown drive against the Cowboys in the first preseason game.
"He did some good things, but we got to work on the turnovers, no doubt," LaFleur said. "But there were a lot of positives for him to be able to get out here and practice."
Stafford was scheduled to speak to reporters after practice but that news conference was canceled. Rams coach Sean McVay was not scheduled to talk to reporters Wednesday.
In 15 games last season, Stafford completed 62.6% of his passes for 3,965 yards with 24 touchdowns and 11 interceptions.
Information from The Associated Press was used in this report.

I'm not very concerned. Stafford is a traditional pocket quarterback who doesn't use his legs like a dual-threat quarterback, also known as a running quarterback.

If McVay won't play his starters why does he have them in a scrimmage? too many injuries this preseason... keep the starters in the weight room looking at film or something.

scrimmages they are not allowed to hit the QB... and tackling in general is half assed

You have to get some sort of action to see how good the starters actually are. Idk how a pocket qb pulls a hammy. He needs to stretch too.

It said he had tightness in hamstring but it didn’t say he pulled it. I imagine a 36 year old QB has tight hamstrings to begin with. Comes with age. He’s more of a pocket passer than anything and rarely if ever is called upon to run the ball. I think that they are being smart with him and the more reps that Jimmy G can get might be optimal at this point in time. Jimmy isn’t expected to play in the preseason games so the inter squad scrimmages they have held with the Chargers, Cowboys and the upcoming one against the Texans will be beneficial for him going into his two week suspension at the start of the season. These clickbait type articles are a daily occurrence in the Rams hating TST. The writers on that site are all fans of other teams being held hostage. I get that you can’t always be a homer and be considered a trusted source but they have no problem hiring haters on what is supposed to be a Rams Talk type Forum. It’s almost comical.

If it's not a hand, arm, shoulder injury or broken bone somewhere with a qb, who cares?

McVay has always said he believes scrimmages are superior to preseason and you can control game situations and get the work done you want to get done.
