It makes sense that a competitive beast like Stafford wants to keep playing.
It also makes sense that a guy like Stafford doesn’t like getting his ass kicked all season long.

As long as we keep 5 solid, big uglies in front of him and keep him upright, he’d be more inclined to stay.

Agree 100%.

I just want an up-grade over Quessenberry should Jackson or McClendon go down. Just a solid veteran.
As bad as he was in limited snaps last year, I think D.J. Humphries is better than what they currently have.

That's why I would have preferred if the Rams signed a veteran third-OT in free agency last month.
Someone like Fred Johnson who eventually re-signed with Philadelphia. Johnson (29) re-signed for $2M.

Personally, I don't want the Rams to use their top-pick on an OT. I would rather they re-sign McClendon and ride with him and Jackson for the foreseeable future but ... Alas ... Snead and McVay do not take my calls.
I don't think we really know what we have in the form of back-ups on the O-line. I don't think many of us saw McClendon or AJ being what they are now. Are there others waiting in the wings that we dismiss as inadequate? I admit that I don't really pay all that much attention to depth players unless I get to see them play. But it seems the Rams try to give linemen time to learn their roles and the NFL game. As far as Humphries or Quessenberry, most people acknowledge that a line takes time to gel. With Humphries, it may very well have been a case of just a new body stepping in and not necessarily that he can't do the job. In that respect, swing tackle or back up linemen may be one of the toughest positions to just step in and have things run smoothly. It will be interesting to see but I just don't think the Rams are going to go after any linemen early in this draft.

Agree with all of that but right now, the only back-up OTs on the roster are Quessenberry and A.J. Arcuri.

I was glad they brought back Quessenberry because he provides veteran position flexibility; and seems like a good guy in the O-Line room provided he is 9th or 10th on the depth chart. But he will turn 36 prior to the start of the season. I see him as no more than a journeyman back-up.

Arcuri is going to be 29 prior to the start of the season. He strikes me as a Practice Squad player who can keep starters fresh during a long season by limiting their practice reps. I just don't see anything more.

Then I look at the remaining free agent OTs ... and I get a cold chill down-my-spine ... and not in a good way.

By-the-way, I hope they don't use their top pick on an OL. If they do, that would indicate to me that they have no strategy/plan to re-sign all three among Dotson, Avila and McClendon; and I would like the Rams to keep the O-Line together beyond 2026 (not counting Shelton) ... I think it's a strong, young group ... and, continuity on the O-Line can be a huge advantage.

so how are you feeling about the draft?

Excited! Nervous... Relieved...that the wait is about over and we can get back to normalcy...until the period from May to August drives us completely insane.

Puka is back in the building- does that make you nervous? My GF works with bitters. It’s hard to stop them & if you can’t you have to do a report.
It doesn’t make her nervous, but pissed if when people don’t take responsibility. Tutu Atwell is an interesting Ex-Ram.IMO he should be a 48er.The reason his picture is on all there train cars. I’m like I know that guy.Still hard to figure out. Was he The last of the bad Picks by McSnead ?
EJ13 got him another ring.Still never understood that trade & Kupp’s with him still.Talk a True Rams who helped The Rams win a Super & help take one away from them as well to WIN another.

At the end of this article it mentions the Rams think Stafford will play 2 or 3 more years.
Stafford for 3 more?
3 more years of a healthy Stafford would be a gift. That’s why the Rams will probably focus this draft on keeping him upright (OL) and happy (Offensive Weapon).
I do hope they find another significant contributor for their defense (LB/CB/NT).

I'm guessing the extension is done and they are just waiting until draft is done and any more moves they might make so they know exactly how much cap they have this year and what money they have to push into later years.

The Rams just don't want Stafford to be a free agent after 2026. That's the whole one year at-a-time thing.

An extension for Stafford does not mean he plays beyond 2026.

He played this past season (2025); and was under contract through 2026.

At the moment, he is not under contract beyond 2026. The "Extension" thing is merely to have him under contract for ... at least ... 2027, so that he is not a free agent after this season. Doesn't mean he plays in 2027.

I doubt whether Matthew Stafford currently has any idea if he will play in 2027.

I think that in his head Stafford thinks he can play till 40. His body will have the final say.

Now that Simpson has been drafted...is Stafford still going to get the extension? And if you believe he will...

I take the report that they're gonna get it done at face value. But taking a better depth QB does directly empower the Rams, at least a little bit, with an Option B in negotiations.

Either way Stafford's gonna play this year for us. If it's his last year so be it, let's make it a good one. Get him another weapon at a minimum.

Yeah, in fact I think they floated that update so people wouldnt read into this pick as a threat to Stafford. That was intentional because it is a touchy situation, which is why they acted subudued in the presser. They saw how Farve and Rodgers reacted when they had a kid drafted high to sit behind them. I know they talked to Stafford, and I bet he wasn't thrilled. So they aren't going to be high fiving in the presser over this pick.
