I was surprised Powell didn’t get some action on offense after his showing on returns.

I doubt all those DBs make the roster and Calais isn’t any better than 5th RB.

Unless Atwell has an amazing camp I see no reason to have him on the roster. Powell can most likely do anything he can and is a better returner.

While I agree with this, taking up roster space as only a Special Teams returner may be difficult when he's competing against 4 other players who will make the roster playing a needed primary position also.
jmo.
How settled is the bottom of the wr roster really? Skowronek didn’t really impress when he almost goated the bengals the SB and guys like Tutu and Harris have yet to get on the field at all, so who knows? Plus Powell seems pretty tight with that guy from the AT&T commercial.

They will keep Atwell IMHO. I agree, he's not a returner, however, he does offer the ability to stretch the field and hopefully, he's able to prove worthy of the selection.

Powell was great and a breath of life into our return games. But our WR room is crowded especially if we bring OBJ back. As good as Powell was it could lead the coaches to look for return guys at other spots. Williams and Funk could help that. We’d all rather Kupp not be back there. Atwell was pushed by some as a return guy as well. As several Have said this will be a crazy camp battle I’ll put it up there with the DB battle and the RG battle.

The only person with multiple punt return ability is Williams he had 14 punt returns for 10.8 yards so he would be an option, but he only did it at Notre Dame for one year.

I love Brandon Powell and I believe Powell also has the ability to offer something as a WR too because he's such an asset in the return game and I understand people get protective over roster spots, but again, Powell change the special team unit as soon as they activated him and IMO, I don't want to take one step forward and two steps back going in another direction.

obj?
Are we keeping seven wide receivers? Six until obj comes back and that doesn’t include Harris who’s been mentioned as a WR. Keeping Powell is rough and even more so for game day actives.

6 receivers including Powell with Harris being a TE/WR hybrid. When OBJ comes back I'm sure one might be injured too. Maybe Williams can be the PR, but I feel Powell is a real asset on special teams. Again, JMHO.

IDK, we will see how it plays out, but I truly believe that Powell has the ability to be an all pro return specialist, so I'm betting on Brandon Powell because IMO, he's the best return guy the Rams have had in quite some time.
Best since Pharoh Cooper's 2017. Dude lit up other teams, especially on kick returns.

Six game day active WR is more than we’ve ever had. That’s the whole point. In order for him to be the return guy one of the others has to be traded, cut or on the IR. I agree he turned around the return game but there’s a limited number of game day spots. He’d have to beat out Skow and Tutu to be the return guy.

just gonna say, OBJ comin back is not a done deal, not til the ink is dry.

Even without him Powell is the #6 WR and we don't keep 6 active on game days. He's either gotta beat out 2 guys ahead of him or he's gotta be Devin Hester in the return game.

Tutu hurt Woods hurt OBJ came on late Skow not active half the year. The playoffs it was Kupp, OBJ Skow Van and Powell. As I said add back in Tutu unless you think McVay is going to get rid of last years highest draft pick and they're already talking Harris up as a WR. You're now deeper at WR than at any point we had Powell on the roster.

1000% and I'm not advocating getting rid of him or anybody. I'm just talking about a crowded WR room especially if like we all anticipate OBJ comes back eventually. If the only thing Powell brings is a punt return game then he's got a big battle for a roster spot at a very crowded and talented position. Personally don't care one guy over another just want the best 53 on the roster.

To my eye, Kyren Williams looks like he would make an excellent punt returner or kick returner or both.

With Stafford's preference for big targets, it's Harris' job to lose over Atwell. If it's even up or even slightly in Atwell's favor, Harris is the guy. If they make the mistake to let the raw, SPARQ God on the PS, some team will snatch him up in a NY minute

We didn't draft any WRs, so that sixth spot seems to be up for grabs between Harris, Atwell and Powell unless Powell makes it as a ST specialist alone...
