Last night was a horrible experience.

The meltdown happened so quickly and so totally that it soured everything.

And that was just the GDT,

Because the team melted down too.

But it obscures the fact that for 25 minutes we played some of our best football of the season and Stafford was on fire

I'm bummed in the same way as I was after the Packers loss, BUT we know this team is streakier than a truck full of bacon so it didn't come as a huge surprise.

Who knows if we can go on another run, but it is possible and people saying there's no way we can beat anybody other than the Cards are just noise to me.

We *can* beat anybody, including Green Bay, if things slot in place.

Whether we will or not, is another matter.

And finally, fuck the NFL for making this the Monday night game so it kicks off for us in the UK after 1 am.

I just don't understand, have NO idea how we looked like a completely opposite team in the 3rd Q. I mean, COMPLETELY opposite. I don't think I've seen a team go from Super Bowl contender to #1 draft pick contender type play over the halftime break. I'm so, so mind blown. What the fuck happened at halftime? I can't put into words how absolutely mind blown I am.

I'd take it a step further.

Stafford played an incredible game when you consider that the OL was pushed back on every single play.

The TD pass to Higs, pass to Kupp, the flawlessly executed PA TD pass to Higbee.

The first INT was basically a punt so no harm done since it was 3rd and 17.

The long pass to Kupp when nobody blocked Armstrong on a 3rd and long on our last TD drive.

Escaped pressure multiple times and threw the ball into the ground, which is what we've been wanting him to start doing.

Honestly this may have been his best game of the year when you consider the circumstances. Our OL didn't get beaten that badly in any other game all year.

Silver lining: Kupp, Whitworth, and Ashawn had good games. Our LBs, Guards, and secondary struggled mightily.

They just came right at us with a ground and pound game out of the half and it wore the defense down quickly and they never recovered because offense couldn't stay on the field. The offense needed to go to a quick passing game with how badly the oline was getting destroyed which used to be the only thing we did with Goff the last two years but we didn't. Stafford had a pretty good game considering he got the shit kicked out of him and always had people in his face.

With a little luck we won't meet them in the playoffs... I feel good about our chances against everyone else.

This game wasn't on Stafford on the offense. They gave them a 17-3 halftime lead. A 24-17 lead with a minute and a half left and no timeouts for the 49ers. This was on the defense. How they left receivers so wide open that final drive should be unacceptable. Especially that TD where no one was even in the same area code as that guy.

All this defense wants to do is sack the QB and if they are going to just stand back and watch passes being completed in front and around them they might as well just blitz on every play.

This is what blows my mind about our defensive scheme. Your greatest strength is in the pass rush, but you play a soft zone. You’re essentially daring teams to throw quick, short passes to counter the pass rush but you leave all the space for those passes open. Our scheme is essentially eliminating our strength and playing into the offense’s counter to the pass rush. It makes absolutely no sense.

I know where he was going and what he saw but I can't unsee the image of Rapp running right by Jennings on his way to the end zone on that play.

when we sacked Jimmy G with 2 min left and they punted - games should be over at that point.

I bet we were around 97% win probability at that moment.

Your first paragraph is so true, and touches on one of my main bitches. Meaning every time we play San Francisco our O line gets blown up for huge parts of the game. That being the case McVay calls straight drop back pass plays constantly. He rolled Stafford out a couple of times but IMHO not nearly enough.

I think we saw what effect losing Fuller had on that last drive. We lost our play caller (Ernest Jones was our backup so not sure who took over at that point?) and the only safety who really knows wtf he's doing in the backfield. God I hope he's ok for the playoffs because that would be detrimental. The backfield looked lost on that drive.

It would've been so perfect. Matthew Stafford to Cooper Kupp for the go-ahead tud. Von Miller with the final sack. Stars show up.

The next series sucked.

Most of the secondary was hoping Miller and Donald would close out the game instead of taking the initiative themselves.

I agree with this statement. Lb'ers not fill the gaps. SF OL shifts to the side of the run and keeps DL moving giving running backs a cut back lane and only arms to get through and with Lb'ers not filling the gaps they're getting 7-8 yards on FIRST DOWN. Can't win games giving up that many runs on first down. We've been saying for years we need run stuffing lb'ers and even drafting one a few years back (don't remember his name) but after couple years we cut him.

Zimmer and Flores need a job. They put together really good defenses. A lot better than ours.

Why? The more I think about it, the more I think it's true.

Had to throw into tight windows, was pressured on most of his drop backs.

Most NFL QBs would have struggled to complete passes in this game. The level of dominance their DL showed was similar to 2019 game in LA when we scored 7 offensive points and struggled to complete passes because their DL obliterated our OL on almost every play, just like yesterday.

Stafford's best games statistically against the Bears and Bucs when he had nothing but clean pockets and played awful secondaries? Nah. Yesterday was more impressive all around, even factoring in the two INTs.

The Cardinals game is probably the other one, but again, not under nearly as much pressure consistently as he was yesterday.

Well Jared Goff beat Green Bay finally & had a nice comeback against the 9ers. I’m not a hater, but follow the NFL.
Sunday’s game against the 9ers to me was unemotional. It is what it is. Just another regular season loss to the 9ers. Thanks Mcvay - Shanahan owns you right now.
IMO it is iron vs iron & when it comes down to it it will only make Beating the 9ers that much more.I’ve said this can win it all if healthy. The NFC West was won by The Rams which was not easy. Pete Carroll is coming back if some want to look forward to next season.
-Right now The Rams loss to GB meant more than last night.Mcvay needs to do a better job.The players that needed to step up in big moments for The Rams diss.I like everything about The Rams right NOW!!
