Garrett has been compared to Reggie White and Bruce Smith, when talking about longevity and impact. Great comparisons as far as longevity goes but impacting the new team not so much. Bruce Smith played his prime for the Bills and didn't go to Washington until age 37, with little impact there. Smith and his 10 sacks took Washington from 10-6 to 8-8 and then worse. Reggie took a 9-7 Packer team to 9-7, 9-7 again, 11-5 (with a CCG loss) and finally 13-3 SB win; 13-3 SB loss. But was it just Reggie? They drafted Craig Newsome at #31 in 1995 and acquired Eugene Robinson in 1996, their SB year, which solidified their back end.

Another comparison for impacting a new team would be Julius Peppers in 2010. The Bears under Lovie Smith had great success early on. Smith took the Bears, who had gone 4-12 and 7-9 before he arrived, to 5-11, 11-5 then 13-3 and a SB loss. They went 23-25 the next 3 years, then acquired Peppers and went 11-5, and to the CCG (a loss). The Bears went from the #17 ranked defense to #9 and from 21st in scoring to #4. But it wasn't just Peppers. Chicago also obtained S Chris Harris from Carolina in a trade and he led them in picks (5) along with Peanut Tillman. They not only improved their pass rush with Peppers but strengthened the back end of their defense with Harris.

This has a familiar ring to it, eh?
