I ...was... praying to God that Aaron Donald might fall to the Rams at 13.
I know he was small
That's why he fell to us obviously which is our blessing.

Super ballsy pick and I'm glad Snead scouted him properly.

About six games into his rookie season you could see he was a number one overall draft pick.

All Fisher and Snead needed to do is watch Senior Bowl practices. I have nary seen practices where one guy dominated every rep. I was shocked he was still available, I hoped we'd pick him at that point, but obviously, he should have been picked much sooner. It was a pretty good draft year, really. I was all in on Greg Robinson, though. Physically, a freak, but what tape doesn't show you, is a players mental ability, and temperament.

Back to Donald, the only thing that made him drop, was his size, people were afraid that he would be effective in the NFL, with his size. He checked every other single box.

I remember watching one of those predraft shows and Bill Polian was talking up AD. He said the Giants should take him as he would a great fit since they no longer had Tuck. Polian said he was an instant starter and pro bowl caliber player. Said his hand technique was already like an NFL veteran.

So the Giants had the pick before us and I figured they would take AD. I was hoping we would get OBJ but the Giants took him. I was disappointed at the time. Sometimes you don't know what is good for you.

There was a 1 on 1 during practice for the Senior Bowl and I remember Donald just running over a much bigger Cyril Richardson who who was supposed to be a pretty decent Guard prospect. Donald showed that incredible first step in combination with violent hands. One of those "Whoa!" moments.

In Donald's rookie training camp it was Brian Shottenheimer that said Aaron Donald would be a pro bowl player.

Yep, that was an unforgettable moment. Donald put the 340 pound Richardson on his ass.

If Snead and Fisher really knew how good AD they would have picked him number 2 overall and just taken the best OT on the board at 13.

Imagine how much better we would have been with Taylor Lewan or Zack Martin? (assuming some team between 3-12 drafted GRob)

I liked the pick. Had read a lot about him and he had a 10 minute college highlight video that was sick.

My son hated it... I always remind him of that. Of course then he reminds me that I refused to give up on Greg Robinson while he wrote him off after 1 season.

BTW, my son showed me a video of Robinson who recently said, "I am now listening the my coaches and it is really starting to pay off"... He also said that he always did what he thought was best and relied on his athletic ability and did not work on the techniques he was being taught.

Can you believe this clown is admitting that he never really listened to coaching?
Didn't Tony Banks say something like that after he left the Rams? Something like "now I read the playbook, so that's been helping."

What I recall is that the Rams wanted OBJ at 13. When he was gone their DL coach was on the table stumping for AD. At least that was media reports,

OBJ is very talented, but drafting him in 2014, which would have been mostly futile. AD was/is a DT and was not expected to carry the team on his shoulders like a prime offensive player might. The worst possibility is that he would have made the Rams "just ok" (8-9 wins) and might have saved Fisher. Disaster.

I kind of believe the report because in 2014 we had Long, Brockers, Quin and Langford. DL was already a strength. Our starting WRs were Givens and Pettis.

good point, but then w e might still have Fisher, or worse, SF might be the ones with McVay as HC
