Who is your top target? The guy you are burnin up the phone lines with to ensure he's a first and only stop at Rams park type of dude?

My target: Ha Ha Clinton-Dix.

Rationale: he's been consistently strong in coverage and offers the deep safety play that bit us in the @$$ all season during 2018. He is also still young and has a clean bill of health.

Interesting thing here is that the safety class' best option is a guy who might or might not be available, Adrian Amos Jr. Who is also young and a very talented and balanced player who fits what we do. The short list also includes the Honey Badger, but after watching some film of his from last year I think he struggled a bit in his coverage and I am not sure to what extent it was scheme or him not knowing what he was doing. But either way this position offers options, it's a big need, and it's something that I would look to solve day one of FA in order to focus on our front seven and OL depth concerns the rest of the way.

I like Dix for that. My pick might be CJ Mosley. With the likely impending release of Barron, Mosely would be a perfect replacement for him and shore up our interior defense.

I really like the idea of adding Danny Shelton who's been brought up by Jrry and Memento many times. I don't think my man crush Dexter Lawrence falls to us :( It would allow us to be flexible with our 1st rounder and even trade down. Sticking in the 1st round we could get a guy like Devin Bush or grab one of the Edge guys that are likely going to fall to us. If we don't get Bush in the 1st a guy I love in the 3rd would be Khalil Hodge from Buffalo.

Agreed on Mosley, and Fisher and Snead were interested in him when he was drafted.

But even though Linebackers don’t generally break the bank in free agency, he may end up being too expensive.

Dix would be a cheaper option

I wouldn’t mind the Rams looking at Preston Smith.

I would be fine with Shelton's addition in FA. But that said, if you were to approach FA and the draft by best-utilizing the relative strengths of each, paying another DL through FA probably isn't very efficient. I'd prefer they go after the DL in this draft.

I have to think they're lookin at him pretty hard right now. For myself, I like Barr much more if we're going to go get a run stuffer who can drop. I believe he's still got some ceiling to reach. But either of those guys are very good targets and possibilities to be someone Snead focuses on getting in to Rams Park on day one.

Paying a DL over another position in free agency instead another position so you can draft the other seems awfully irrelevant. The best players available to help your team is all that matters. Payroll grouping by position is pointless. You'd rather pay somebody a little less on the DL instead of get the best player just so you could spend more money on say linebackers or corners? I just don't get that.

I’m thinking KJ Wright from Hawks. They have to sign Clark and local radio has rationalized that even though they love Wright, he is probably gone.

Plus we get to stick it to Carroll. I’d say Earl Thomas for that reason too but he is about to trail off bigtime.

I like the idea of Barr as well. I wish he wasn’t such a liability in coverage, but I still think he’s worth picking up.

I think any GM is going to play the market to its strengths, as well as the draft. This draft the DL is insanely good. So even if you disregard how much we are paying Brock and AD it makes sense to use FA for S and maybe LB.

With OLB you probably want to address it in the draft if you can, because it is a bank-breaking position. So I'd go safety for sure in FA and try to improve ILB too. Then draft front 7 defense.

CJ Moseley or Jordan Hicks would be a fantastic start for ILB - which puts Barron on the trade block. I really want them to lock up Saffold for another 3 years but I believe the Rams are going to let all of their FAs test the market before they make their move.

My pick is Kwon Alexander. He's a legit playmaker, and shouldn't cost too much with his injury and suspension (for PEDs.) Danny Shelton is definitely a must-have with Alexander and Littleton in the middle, so I'll include him as well.

If he gets cut, Gerald McCoy. Get to replace Suh with a better pass rusher and he might be a bit cheaper than Suh while still helping out the Comp Pick formula.

Bring back Darian Stewart. He will be cheap, knows Wade and will play the run better than Joyner. He seems to be over the hammy issues that hampered him early in his career with the Rams.

I like the idea of signing ILB J. Hicks & bring back D. Stewart. Saffold is a must.
I would think about signing the bronco's ILB if Hicks isn't an option

The Eagles really missed Hicks when he was injured. Hicks could be a good signing but I don't think Philly lets him go without a fight.

One guy that I find interesting is Matt Paradis. Center for Denver. He could be a good replacement for Sullivan.

One other interesting candidate who is supposedly a likely release is Glover Quinn. NFL.com claims he doesn't fit Patricia's defense.

What I really hate about FA is I look at a guy like Barr and think he'll be a relative bargain (considering that he'll be a highly drafted first time FA) given the fact a very well respected defensive mind is passing on him. And then FA hits and some jacka$$ effin front office slings a huge contract at him.

I’m worried about what he might fetch in FA as well. I’m interested in the Rams signing Barr if the price is right. I honestly wish the Rams would have signed Todd Davis last year. He’s a very similar player to Barr in terms of his strengths at weaknesses. Although, I think Davis would have been a better fit because of his familiarity with Wade’s defense. Plus, he got a fairly affordable contract from Denver.
