So, is this gonna be a 2nd consecutive “redshirt” draft?

Snead did well on the 3rd & 4th selections in last yrs draft. It will pay off greatly this season. Selecting an LT who is versatile enough to be the main game day plugin for four posts is a miracle!
If they select an OL'er with that first pick & one injury to one starting Ram OL'er would mean that pick would never see much of that bench.
It would be highly unusual for the Rams to go through a third straight season with no injuries. :cautious::notsure:What would happen if a very normal part of the NFL takes place & Noteboom was injured? who starts @ LG who would back up the LT post on game day?

Okay let's look at what Kromer has now in starters in the OL:

LT-Whitworth oldest starting OT in the NFL. There is a reason he is an oddity OL'ers are very high up each & every season on being injured & IR's are always full of OL'ers. Rams are set to utilize their only LT reserve as a starting OG. Who's the back up ready to protect the blind side for Goff if Whitworth is unable too? This situation is poor & worrisome should be cause for concern.

RT- Havenstein is still young & healthy & Kromer has two reserves RT's who have several NFL seasons on NFL rosters....signed currently both have NFL experience as starters or relievers. This posts situation is okay

OC- Rams have made it known that 2nd yr OL'er Brian Allen will start @ center for the first time. Allen has yet to start an NFL game. Rams have several other OL'ers who have started in the NFL @ center (Blythe/Neary). This situation is good.

LG- NoteBoom is the planned starter @ LG. If the need is Rams do have several possible prospects who might be inserted to start @ LG....current reserves Jamil Demby or Aaron Neary neither have any playing experience @ LG in regular season This situation appears to be weak if Noteboom goes down.

RG- Blythe is still young & still learning... his play was surprising after the Rams lost starter Jason Brown. However he was destroyed in the SB last February. Reserve @ this time would most likely be Jamil Demby or Darrell Willimas. NOT good not bad either. Needs to be improved & addressed IMO

I would think Kromer desires a talented OG & LT prospects to be drafted on day 1 or day 2 in order to address the Whitworth retirement & the UFA'cy of Blythe. . A center prospect would be nice on day 3.
Yes.

A LG is a priority. We need someone that can step in if Whit or Note go down.
We already know if Whit goes out, Note is more than likely moving over.

Plus. Is this Whits last year?

I like that kid from NC State... Garrett Bradbury. He can play center or guard, which shores up the interior of the o-line for many years. However, I will defer to McSnead on this one, since they haven't called me... yet.

It'll definitely be a redshirt draft, especially since we have solid young vets ahead of the new draftees and undrafted free agents. Now, I bet that we could see some rookies get starting roles, but most of them are going to have to wait their turn. This is a better team than we've had in years past.

If the Rams stay at 31 and pick Lawrence or Bradbury they will be starters. The two reasons to stay at 31 are: to get an immediate starter or can't find a decent trade back partner.

Then the prospect who might fall a bit & still be available to be that instant plug in is interior OL'er Garrett Bradbury. He spent his first years @ N.C. State playing OG. Cody Ford stands a much better chance to still be on the board & has Rodger Saffold size to him. Ford is more of a LG/RG/RT prospect. Both of these prospects would help strengthen the 2019 OL.

Thanks for the info Boni.
I dont get to watch much College ball, so Im usually out of the loop on draft prospects.

We have had a solid O line the past couple years. It was refreshing after all the struggles and failed draft prospects we've had to deal with. I'd hate to see this unit regress.
Our offense is just average without a good O line.

I certainly do not want to see any more Ram games like the SB where our OL was inept, over matched & Goff molested for 4 quarters. Goff's future success in the NFL is tied to strength of his starting OL.

It will be a very interesting Trainig Camp & Preseason OL situation this summer. The loss of two veteran long time starting center & LG is one very big change. On top of that our crucial starting LT Whitworth is another yr older (that's not a positive). The installing of two new starters who will be entering their 2nd season & who have never started will be a big story & concerning event.

The positive here is Kromer does have a young right side duo both just 26 yrs old. Blythe will go into his 4th season for the first time as a starter. Blythe should improve after getting the all that 19 game experience in 2018, plus he will entering his final season under his rookie contract & looking for a big raise.

I think you can add the Chicago and Philly games as well. Our O line was beaten by both of those teams and it brought us down to earth quickly.

I would actually like to see no less than 2 solid o line prospects drafted. Go defense with the rest of our picks.
Goff is going to get a big raise. Possibly as soon as next season.
We have to keep him on his feet to let him do his job.

Having AD in camp will stress the OL, no doubt. He's got one speed and he's not one for taking a play off.

Matthews will flex between EDGE and ILB (for passing plays). That means there are probably only 2 positions open to competition this year. ILB and NT/DT (Brockers flexing to the other). I hope Kiser fills the ILB and the draft fills the NT/DT position. OL and CB depth will also be key in this draft.

It's an optimal situation. Guys can take a year to get a feel for what the league is about..with out the pressure of having to come in and play right away. Then you can plug them in the following year and not have to overpay for guys at those positions.

Let's hope we keep drafting well enough to do this

With Both our starting corners UFA's next yr. & the top back up outside corner HIll also being a UFA ......nothing but UDFA & WWC's left......the need to get some talented corners in here to groom has to be a priority. That's one reason I see a trade out of the first round to gather up another 2nd day draft selection.
