So, is Matthieu now off Rams radar? Signing with Ain'ts?

According to Schefter, Saints are now heavily pursuing Mathieu since they didn't draft one this weekend. My guess is he lands there. He played at LSU so he's likely comfortable there. Not happy about it, but, I'd rather get an edge at this point with our $
If he goes to the Saints at this point in time then he deserves all he's going to get there......nuthin'. They have sub .500 written all over them and he's just going to become a loser like 'em.
Can't believe he'd turn down an opportunity to play with a winner looking to "run it back" over and against a team mired in mediocrity.
Just my .02

We still have a lot of time… June cuts, and trades as teams get to see where their strength is at later in camp.

I like where we are at, heading into that part of the off-season.

:thumbsup1:

Edit: T.M.… maybe. But it looks like we are set for now. Saving any expected $ with extensions, for later.

Not happy if we lose Mathieu. I have zero confidence in anyone but Ramsey and Hill 50% of the time. Especially considering there isn't much for EDGE available.
Looking at just the safeties I don't think we're screwed if we don't get Mathieu but it sure looks a ton better if he's added.

Agreed. There is no rush right now. I expect some June cuts especially at edge where we would be a very attractive landing spot for a player with a chip on his shoulder to come on the cheap.

As much as I loved OBJs resurgence, I am not paying him until I see he is back to what he was last year.

My guess is that our defensive players from prior drafts (T. Lewis, C. Garrett, R. Rochelle, etc) will be given the opportunity to step up to see if they can be starters. If not, then Snead will wheel and deal with a team not doing so well for outside help. Seems to be his pattern. Pretty smart because we honestly don't know how our young guns are developing. For example, we didn't know Gaines would ball like he did nor did I ever think an UDFA like D Williams would eventually start for us and help us be champs.

They still should sign Tyrann Matthieu.

These rookies are not likely to learn the system well enough to not be making a lot of mistakes.

I wouldn’t go into a Super Bowl defense with only Ramsey, Long and Hill knowing I could have had a successful veteran like Tyrann Matthieu to help. Especially after experiencing what the veteran presence of Weddle did for the unit.

McVay alluded to giving Garrett a chance to step up in the post game presser.

Rams really loaded up in their secondary. Maybe even a tad too much?

I’m now doubtful that they want Matthieu all that much anymore. Would be overkill, kinda?

Jourdan has been hinting rather strongly that Rams intendEd to make significant FA signings after the draft. Does she still feel that Rams are leaning that way? But is it an Edge? Or some other position?

And I’m curious about their plans for a punter, too. I had expected them to draft one from this class but other players kept falling into their lap it seems. As it stands I consider P as a team need. Dixon does not inspire confidence in me.

Are Rams still intending to restructure AD and Kupp? I think so and I would love to be a fly on the wall as they discuss their finishing FA strategy.

Signing OBJ seems highly likely and Edge is an area that I need reassurance upon through on the field evidence. Edge may be where they invest FA dollars in, don’t you think? Maybe someone modestly expensive but would provide vet insurance for a SB run. ANOTHER SB run, that is. Lol.

I’ve gotta say that I really like this current roster and these coaches.

Hot Damn!

I believe you've covered remaining needs/wants pretty well, but I'd like to add one more, and probably someone we can acquire as a post camp cut, whether as a CAP Casualty or a young developmental player the Rams may have missed on in the draft. This would be a Center, someone who is potentially far better than Kolone, yet likely is still relegated to the Practice Squad. The Rams do need a strong #3 Center who is insurance for both Shelton & Allen in case of injury.

I noticed that the Rams grabbed three DE's as UDFA's, so I'm thinking they aren't really satisfied with what they have seen in Practice Squad players Ernest Brown, Jonah Williams or the recently departed Justin Lawler, and none of these guys add much of a pass rush. Recently acquired Brayden Thomas of NDSU did have 9 sacks last season. Fl.St. DE Keir Thomas recorded 42 tackles, including 12.0 for loss with 6.5 sacks, 15 quarterback hurries and one pass breakup in 12 games last season. Benton Whitley - DE, Holy Cross rounds out the 3 hopefuls, all of whom would be seeking a rotational pass rushing role. This is a position to watch in camp imo.

Edge may be handled more like last season when we added Von Miller mid-season, giving McVay/Morris the opportunity to see what we really have in Hollins, Lewis & Garrett while also keeping a close eye on the development of Hardy and one or two of the potentially new pass rushing DE's we received as UDFA's. OLB/DE Edge may not be considered as dire as we fans who miss Von Miller believe, at least not on day 1 of the new season.

Yes I think it does mean that. I think we add OBJ back into the fold and I'd wager we add a deadline edge like last year if the guys opposite Flo don't seem like they're making a difference.
I think that you just nailed it, OldSchool. Dead, solid, perfect.

The word has been New Orleans for a while. I think he heads home for the money and personal time. He’s got his ring, because he’s not sniffing a championship with the Saints.

I wanted Clowney last 2 years not because I believe he is superman but because he is just good at everything but he is the type of player that given the AD effect with Floyd and wagoner this defense would be something special .He had 9 sacks last year on a Cleveland team with essentially just Garett and from my recollection a mediocre secondary and not to many other killer rushers .....he would really be something with this defense and it would be impossible to run on this team on paper of course.

There really isn't a reason he shouldn't already have been resigned by Cleveland. Has nothing to do with Mayfield. I know he signs late but that's seems to be the case if he is switching teams. If he was sure about Cleveland he would be resigned by them already..

They drafted 2 safeties and it's not a position of need IMO, especially at his price. I'd rather spend that money trading for a good edge.

Honey Badger is going to the Saints.

Fuck, man. Not thrilled with this. Glad we went from kicking the tires on Gilmore and Honey Badger to drafting some huge projects late in the draft.

I think Matthieu is simply taking the best offer still on the table. His Ram option evaporated on Day 3 of the draft, especially with the Hill trade.

I wish him well but I’m very comfortable with our secondary now.
