@Elmgrovegnome....
So it goes.
A comedian like John Stewart has a team of writers that come up with his stuff....he probably contributes, but, is he some comedic genius....naw.
Most arrogance is based in insecurity, so, a radio guy who's job it is to give his opinion on a topic he may or may not know much about....well, this is why many don't take calls or only take calls from people who agree with them. If they get someone who disagrees and is making a valid point they usually get rid of them as quickly as possible.
They usually have a staff that will do research for them as well.
I like good radio, but, it is hard to find.
Never looked at it that way. Makes sense that they shoot you down when you make them look bad though. Good point! For the most part, being able to speak well is a valuable talent that can be used in many ways, even if a guy doesn't exactly know what he is speaking about. There is this shyster that came to our small town from Philly. I got to know him and saw through the BS quick but he was in the paper, on all of the councils, into politics. Everyone loved him and thought every word was gold. It took the town a good 8-10 years to finally catch up to him. I always wondered if I was given a gift to see through BS or did people just lack common sense?
Lot of BS info on twitter, a few nuggets tho. Albright shoots strait, good or bad. Hope new gig doesn't compromise him. Draft day can't get here soon enough. ( Goff love making me sick)
What do you mean Goff Love making you sick? Please explain.
Interesting take. However, I will listen and evaluate a doctors opinion. Somebody on a board spouting off about how much they know... no. Not as an expert. There are many bad doctors. There are no experts on a board. Just opinions.which can be fun
I disagree. If someone spends enough time on something then they are a bit of an expert on the subject. Lance Zierlien wasn't even an NFL scout and he is doing scouting reports for NFL.com and appears on their show. How do these scouts get their jobs? They know someone mostly. They are taught what to look for and they hit the road with a list of assignments. It isn't that big of a deal. If you get a blog or a radio show and sound like you know what you are talking about you could possibly get noticed and get a shot. I know a guy trying to do that very thing because he knows someone else that it worked for.
There is a local guy. I have known him for years. He is considered an expert on PSU football. He even got radio show on the subject after he had an independent pod cast for a year. People see him everywhere and look to him for inside knowledge and such. He doesn't really have any. He just surfs boards and pay sites and gets what he can and then talks the talk. I know most of his stuff is just BS opinion that I don't agree with. But to many............he is an expert.
So, what is an expert? Are scouts really experts? If they were they would never to rarely be wrong about an eval. GMs? Are they experts? They are wrong a lot. A lot of them get hired only to be fired because they didn't get the job done. So, then you have a group of more hardcore fans that look at games, and they get as many picks right as the 'experts'. What is the difference? Who they know. That is all it is. You don't have to be some football genius to become a scout. You just have to have an in, make an in, or find an in like Devanney did by pestering Beathard.
Very true. They arent right 100%, but this is there job, and they have them for a reason.
Read above. They don't have the jobs because they are great or even good at what they do......sure some of them become very good and move up the ladder but many are just people and like any other job there are some doing their job well, some just towing the line and others that stink, but know how not to get fired. Every job is the same because people are all the same no matter where you go.
Now they have scout school where you can go and learn how to do it and apply for a job. But how do the NFL personnel know if you are good or not? You don't get a 4 year degree in NFL scouting and come out with a 4.0.
Scouting seems to have gotten this elite status that I don't really think it deserves because these guys in the end are just adding things up and giving their OPINIONs on players. We don't even know how many of them are preferred by their Scouting directors and GMs. Which ones do all of the talking to the media? Are they the good ones? Or are they the guys that do the minimum, listen to other scouts, and then like to feel important by being sources for Charles Davis. Why did Mayock decide not to rely on sources and go back on the road this year to do his own evaluations if these scouts are such great professionals? They are just people giving their opinions and they have more information on personal details, which if they are bad it usually surfaces in the press. Otherwise they are evaluating how the players play by watching games. Something anyone can do that has a computer and a TV.
