jap said:People are getting too excited about the Rams' loss last weekend. I expected some early struggles because of the youth and new faces. However, it's highly impressive how competitive the Rams have been thus far even though they are definitely not clicking on all cylinders yet.
I like DRich and his instantaneous burst. However, he is not nearly as elusive as Isaiah nor has Zac or Benny's sheer strength. Schotty has to find how to mix his RB's talents to derive the greatest team benefit.
Fish and Walton are protecting their young safeties, but Jenks has to figure out when he can gamble and when he can't. Gambling against Jones with no safety help was not smart at all, and he acknowledged that. You just can't screw around with the more savvy QB's in this league when you're on an island. Jenks got burned by Aaron Rodgers, the man named Brady, and even the 'Phins Tannehill last season. He needs to wise up in order to promote himself to shutdown CB status.
That's the problem, he did have safety help. This is the second time in 2 weeks where McLeod was in Cover 1 and we got torched on a deep route on the right seam.
I like McLeod, I do. But he's making mistakes that young players make and he hung our CBs out to dry both weeks.
Here are some shots of the game-film:

As you see, pre-snap alignment, he's behind Jenkins. Now, that is meant to throw Ryan off to an extent as he immediately slides over into a Cover 1 deep zone in the middle of the field. However, his responsibility on that play is not to allow a WR to get deeper than he is. You are given the opportunity to roam and try to make plays while in Cover 1, at the same time, you're still the "safety". Which means you're responsible for not allowing the opposing team to get behind you.
On this play, McLeod gets completely duped by Ryan. Ryan uses the route run by Harry Douglas to look off of Julio's route and McLeod tries to jump it and then he immediately throws it over the top to Julio when McLeod is caught in no man's land.
It's a great play by Ryan to look off his primary WR gambling that Jenkins is going to be over-aggressive and jump the route knowing he has safety help and preying on an inexperienced safety trying too hard to make a play.
However, McLeod was supposed to be there. He was supposed to be the help over the top but got too aggressive and wasn't assignment sound. He put himself in no man's land and allowed the WR to get behind him. Two critical mistakes by a young safety.
