We've been EXTREMELY FORTUNATE with the dirty "i" word over the McVay era. Losing players like SJD is just a part of football... and we have guys who can and will step up... but... in order to accomplish the goals this team has, we need to keep our streak of good health alive.

When the Rams drafted Bobby Brown they sent a clear message that SJD will be gone next year. Gaines has outplayed SJD on fewer reps last year and again this year. SJD makes too many tackles on the wrong side of the LOS. SJD's best contribution will be a possible comp pick. I'm sure Staley will grab him, if not the Chargers, some team will.

Three teams tried to grab Jonah Williams but he has a hernia which affected his play and led to his being released. I'm sure teams will be equally interested in SJD. Regardless I think the Rams will be fine with Gaines and Brown as I think Robinson will also be released.

Having said that, I am cautiously optimistic that the Rams will not see too much drop-off in play between Gaines and Robinson as the next men up. I am also curious to see what the rookie Brown has.

Even if Gaines and Robinson are able to adequately replace SJD, however, the Rams are still taking a big hit in the trenches with this injury. You need depth in the trenches - and lots of it - to win late in the season and deep into the playoffs. Hopefully, SJD can return by the playoffs. Or at least by the later rounds, if the Rams make it that far.

I do wonder if the Rams had a feeling this is where SJD was heading and if that factored into the decision to bolster the defence by adding Von Miller.

In all fairness I do believe this is a fair assessment that Gaines has outplayed SJD. That being posted better to have both then just Gaines, IMHO.
