I remember thinking it was a huge play at the time, but reflecting back, he was a hero.

The deep ball to Chase from Burrow was a thing of beauty. Great pass. Great catch. Reminded me of the first TD of the season for Stafford, when he hit Jefferson who fell down but GOT BACK UP AND WENT INTO THE ENDZONE. The safety slowed down and thought the play was over, and Jefferson juked him...

Chase also went down untouched and bounced back up. But Scott was there to put him back down. The drive ended in a FG. That play took 4 points of the board for the Bengals, who lost by 3.

Scott, we love you!

Pretty sure they marked the ball where he first went down.

He had a solid game, was a bit hit/miss tbh. Also gave up the TD due to biting on the run action. His aggressiveness can work against him, but he's gonna get a chance to work on that thankfully.

The Bengals did the same thing the 9ers did, a WR/RB pass. Next year, Morris has to remind them to stay discipline on those plays.

Should Nick Scott be a starter in 2022?

Los Angeles Rams News and Links for 3/4/22
By Blane Dydasco@BlaneDydasco Mar 4, 2022, 8:05am CST

NFL: NFC Championship-San Francisco 49ers at Los Angeles Rams

The Super Bowl Champion Los Angeles Rams were tested on their depth this season in almost all areas of their team. In part, this was due to the fact that they were one of two teams that played a longer season than any of the other thirty. One of the areas of the depth that was tested in the post season was the safety position. Taylor Rapp, Jordan Fuller, Terrell Burgess, and Nick Scott all played a role in manning the back part of the secondary and even retired former Rams safety Eric Weddle was summoned to fill a gap in the roster.

Of all the players that took advantage of their step up reps, Nick Scott was one that stood out. The first play against an elite quarterback for Scott this season actually came in training camp when he was one of the few that intercepted Matthew Stafford during 11 on 11 drills. During the regular season, Scott grabbed an interception against the Seattle Seahawks and the Detroit Lions.

In the post season is where he truly had a noticeable impact. In the wildcard round he had an impeccably timed pass breakup against AJ Green that set up the next play which ended up being an interception touchdown by David Long Jr. In the divisional round, Scott snagged what would become the last interception against the great Tom Brady. Finally against the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC Championship game Scott made perhaps the biggest clean hit on Deebo Samuel coming across the middle for a pass break up in a game where every play mattered.

Scott was selected in the seventh round of the 2019 draft. Has he turned out to be a prize late round pick? Should he be a starter in 2022?

At the very least Scott's gonna get a chance to compete. Even if they were to go get a safety this offseason who can play some deep center Scott is looking at a lot of snaps in nickel as a box element.

I think Rapp is becoming redundant with the way Scott's emerged. Scott basically has grown into a better box safety than him IMO. So the way forward for Rapp is to make strides in his reads and the mental side in order to compete as a starter. And if he can't do that, well, he then represents an option to add a couple million to the cap space.

He has to beat out whoever else is on our team if he wants to start.

I'll say this though... He's already a starter on the All-NFL Shit Talking Team. That little dude is a world class shit talker. World Class.

It’s hard to tell of Scott can play as well without Weddle diagnosing things. But Rapp doesn’t do much for me. They are both free agents next season. I wonder if they resign one or both.

Scott is still learning. He came in exceptionally raw, having played RB, CB and safety. He has the speed and length to play as a deep FS. Both Rapp and Fuller are actually SS types. The NFL is moving towards having the nickel as a standard base defense. In this division that is especially so. Burgess is another tweener who has the physical traits to play CB or FS. IMO the Rams are 4 deep at safety now.

At CB I expect Ramsey and Rochell to be the starting boundary CBs. Rochell's development will be key to how Morris can play his defense. Robert has the traits and talent to become another Ramsey. I look for him to take that next step this year. If they draft a DB I would expect them to grab a CB with size (at least 5'11") and at least 4.4 speed.

I said it last summer that this team is already built. As much as I would love them to re-sign Miller, it's not like they don't have talent behind him. Hollins is underrated and Lewis should now be ready. This is a good defense without Miller, but he definitely makes this defense elite when paired with AD, Floyd, and Gaines.

He’s earned a shot to compete for the job. There are very few people that are guaranteed a starting spot but there are also a lot of players you know will win the job given the opportunity.

He's much more athletic than Rapp and seems to have taken a step. I think he'll compete with Rapp for the starter opposite of Fuller. He has the speed to play deep that Rapp just doesn't have.

I like Scott in pass defense. He had the big bone-crushing hits in the playoffs.

He seems to have trouble coming downhill and attacking the ball carrier. He whiffed on a number of plays.

He gets to compete of course. At least he could play on passing downs and maybe more.
