It used to be common practice to leave a penny for the tip when you got bad service. He is not the first person to send a message this way.
Okay, but that's being a jerk.
Why should you get to hide the fact that you are a jerk?

Minimum wage for servers is $2.13 per hour
I'm with you, I cant imagine ever leaving a tip like that. And I've had some real lousy service
I'm a great tipper and I tip decently even when I have bad service. However, I don't see anything wrong with what McCoy did if he felt it was poor service.
And in Pennsylvania, while the minimum wage for tipped employees is $2.83, they are required to get the $7.25 minimum wage either ways. So if they don't accrue enough tips, the employer just has to pay the minimum wage out of their pocket. So in the end, the hourly wage is somewhat misleading. They're guaranteed $7.25 either ways.
Her tip depends on how good the service is![]()

As long as you don't give her the shaft.
That is everywhere.I'm a great tipper and I tip decently even when I have bad service. However, I don't see anything wrong with what McCoy did if he felt it was poor service.

I remember back when I was a teenager, my Dad told me about a guy who left his penny tip in an up-ended glass of water. You take a piece of paper, put it on top of the glass, flip the glass over so the paper is now on the table, then slide the paper out from under. Now that's an insult. It used to be common practice to leave a penny for the tip when you got bad service. He is not the first person to send a message this way.

It is not being a jerk it is sending a message that your unsatisfied. When you got to someplace to spend your money you should expect service to make you want to be there. If you are not getting it you have every right to let your server know you are unhappy. It is your money you are spending, expect more.Okay, but that's being a jerk.

Totally agree you pay for service IN the price of the food to begin with,if you don't get it your only recourse is to express it in the tip,or you could call the manager and just out with it and say "the service was terrible ,I'm not leaving a tip,if you find that unacceptable ,what are you willing to do about it".It is not being a jerk it is sending a message that your unsatisfied. And I agree with this. From what I read, the service, with the exception of the missed appetizer was good! Take the tip down for that goof! Make it $6.00, not 20 cents! All he did was show what a jerk he is!
$2.83 per hour, $2.13 per hour. Makes no difference. Servers make their money on tips, not hourly wages.I'm a great tipper and I tip decently even when I have bad service. However, I don't see anything wrong with what McCoy did if he felt it was poor service.

I understand not tipping great if you get bad service, but I find it hard to believe the McCoy table is not going to get extra attention.....of course that is just my opinion and don't know all the facts. There is always two sides to every story. That being said, if the service was so bad why not tell the manager as opposed to leaving a .20 tip. That is uncalled for. Its not like McCoy gives back some of his pay for a bad performance on the field, its these kids lively hood and your in burger joint.
