And this and the book "Spygate" don't go into detail about the taping of the Rams walkthrough. The bookd mentions it, but just says it was done and there were witnesses and a tape. People don;t go back to 2001, like thartilce it goes to what's admitted---2006 and 2007 issues with Jets and Packers

There is an unmistakable atmosphere of conflict of interest or potential conflict of interest between what is in the public's interest and what is in the NFL's interest. The NFL has good reason to disclose as little as possible in its effort to convince the public that what was done wasn't so bad, had no significant effect on the games and, in any event, has all been cleaned up.

Bumping this because of the lousy call in the Detroit vs Cowboys playoff game?

The wayGoodell handled Spygate is what makes me think that it is absolutely possible that the NFL tries to control the outcome of games. Your quoted statement spells it out perfectly.

The NFL likes to sell us the idea of fair competition but behind everyone of their moves is the initiative to make the product more profitable for them.

No one has to believe me, but as recent as when Dom Capers was with Pats, they were still up to no good, it was back when paper was still used and the Pats had people who worked in hotels that the opposing teams would stay out go through garbage and try and find printouts of game plans and anything that might help. Not sure that is spying, exactly, but seems cheesy, if true and I do trust who told me. He's the one who told me Mike Tice was scalping tickets a year before Tive got nabbed for that,

All this makes me want to attend the next Draft. Not so I can get all hyped up about the next Ram 1st rounder mind you,,, Noooooooo....

I want to go so that I can start the chant in the crowd, "BURN THE TAPES!!!" every time GODell takes the podium.

If you're organizing it, provided we get a dozen strong to do it, I'm in. Catharsis... But can we wait til after the Rams pick?

There's a little bit of a crossover here with some of the threads regarding the officiating decisions in my opinion. The whole thing comes together when you look at it from the point of view of the NFL execs and Goodell. For them, the league is not a professional, competitive and fair sports league - but an entertainment franchise like the WWE. The most important thing for them isn't "integrity" and a level playing field, but entertainment for the fans because that = $$$. Thus have we seen endless ridiculous rule changes to favour high scoring offensive football. Thus have we seen endless decisions favouring the leagues darlings Dallas Cowboys and the New England Patriots for example (just watch the tape of the Dallas v St Louis game this year - its ridiculous). Unfortunately it comes at a cost - that is felt by fans of unfashionable franchises such as ours.

I'm betting copies of those tapes actually exist somewhere, to be used at the proper time, by the proper person.

That said, if you don't think the NFL ain't corrupt, look no further than the slap on the wrist the Patsies go for a SB. If they could get away with it again, they'd trade that money/draft pick for another SB.

Fuck Goodell.

That bitch deserves all the hate-mail he gets.

The whole "destroying the tapes" says all that needs to be said.

I am surprised the NFL thinks the public is so stupid.
The public IS that stupid, or at least very poorly informed. When I bring the subject up, most other fans look at me like I'm just a bitter loser.....

I don't know. By burning the tapes, Goodell makes sure none of his successors' ever expose him.

I fucking hate that POS.... the NFL has turned downhill with that POS running it. Anybody but a Pats, Cowgirls, Steelers, Packers fan should be hesitant to have him as the commissioner.
