Sean McVay’s Top 4 Rams Games

Since taking over as head coach of the Los Angeles Rams in 2017, Sean McVay has engineered numerous impressive victories and exhilarating moments for the franchise. In this article, we will dive into McVay’s top four games at the helm of the Rams, highlighting the thrilling matchups that showcased his coaching brilliance and left a lasting impact on the team’s journey toward greatness.

Week 4, September 27, 2018: Rams vs. Vikings

In a highly anticipated showdown against the Minnesota Vikings, the Rams displayed their dominance on both sides of the ball. Led by a stellar performance from Jared Goff and a suffocating defense, the Rams emerged victorious with a 38-31 triumph. Looking back on Goff’s time with the Rams, this was by far his best game, finishing with a perfect passer rating. Sean McVay’s play-calling and strategic adjustments proved instrumental in outmaneuvering a formidable opponent and solidifying the Rams’ status as a force to be reckoned with in the league.

Week 11, November 19, 2018: Rams vs. Chiefs

Dubbed the “Game of the Year,” the Rams engaged in an unforgettable Monday Night Football clash against the Kansas City Chiefs. In a back-and-forth offensive shootout, both teams showcased their explosive playmaking abilities.

With a final score of 54-51 in favor of the Rams, this high-scoring spectacle remains etched in Mahomes and Goff’s legacy. This Monday Night Football win will undoubtedly go down as one of his best, outdueling the future MVP.

Sean McVay’s innovative offensive schemes, combined with outstanding performances from Goff and Brandin Cooks, demonstrated the Rams’ potential to dominate even the toughest of opponents.

Super Bowl LVI: Rams vs. Bengals

Super Bowl LVI marked the pinnacle of Sean McVay’s coaching journey with the Rams so far. Facing the Cincinnati Bengals, the Rams put on a display of skill, determination, and resilience. With a thrilling 23-20 victory, the Rams secured their second Super Bowl title in franchise history.

McVay depended on his stars to make an impact in the game, to which Aaron Donald and Von Miller each had 2 sacks, and Cooper Kupp with 2 touchdowns.

The Rams certainly weren’t the best team during the regular season, but when it mattered they got it done. McVay’s ability to rally his team, make crucial in-game adjustments, and guide them to victory on the grandest stage exemplified his coaching brilliance and solidified his place among the league’s elite coaches.’

NFC Championship Game 2018-19: Rams vs. Saints

The NFC Championship Game against the New Orleans Saints will forever be etched in Rams’ history as a game of intense drama and controversy. In a hostile environment, the Rams battled back from a significant deficit and ultimately triumphed in overtime with a 26-23 victory. McVay’s strategic brilliance, coupled with the resilience and composure displayed by the team, solidified their place in Super Bowl LIII and was one of the few times that McVay came back from a first-half deficit.

These four games represent some of the most memorable moments under Sean McVay’s leadership of the Los Angeles Rams. From thrilling victories to a Super Bowl triumph, each contest showcased McVay’s strategic brilliance, the resilience of his team, and their ability to compete at the highest level.

As the Rams continue their journey under McVay’s guidance, fans eagerly anticipate more unforgettable moments and victories that will shape the franchise’s future success. With a bright future ahead, McVay’s coaching legacy with the Rams is sure to leave an indelible mark on the team’s history.

The game against the saints was a magnificent display from the Rams. The most hostile environment imaginable and they still managed to pull back a 13 point deficit.

Too bad they weren't given a lick of credit for it after the game or before the superbowl.

Haven't watched an espn show after their disgusting display after the game and the two weeks leading up to the superbowl. They must have shown the missed call about 2000 times in those two weeks. I would tape the nfl live show and I would go through it on fast forward to see if there was anything worth watching and without fail I would see the missed call maybe 100 times in the one show. Every single day for two weeks the Fuckwits.

It was a different result with the Rams overcoming an even more blatant missed call against them with the no call face mask in the Super Bowl against the Bengals - but little to no outrage in comparison for a non-call that was far more obvious.

There have been a lot of great games under Sean McVay and I basically agree with the list, but I would replace either the Vikings or Saints NFCCG with the Niner NFCCG. I believe we were down by 10 points in the 4th quarter against an elite defense. Yes, it was at home but SoFi was swamped by Niner fans wanting to soil SoFi by beating us a second time in the NFCCG. For my mental health, we HAD to beat them. Super Bowl 56 was almost a let down compared to this win.

And never a mention of all the no-calls and all the poor officiating that went against the Rams. We proved to be the tougher team.

As much as I enjoyed the vikings game and of course, that insane chiefs game, I offer 2 replacements:
1) how about overcoming a 10 point deficit vs the 9ers in the NFC title game? They stayed the course using a formula that would come in handy 2 weeks later in the SB. That 9er game WAS the SB, much like the old raider/steeler playoff games were. The uncalled face mask to start the 2nd half is what made the SB interesting; otherwise, I believe the bengals would have been rolled up.

2) 2017 game against the cowboys. After such a long, crappy run, the McVay era required a big win—something the Rams struggled to get for several years. Going on the road (Dallas of all places) and coming from behind to win that game, the McVay era started. The cowboys were supposed to be a playoff team that year, not the Rams; but suddenly, there weren’t any limitations to how good the Rams could be—overnight.

Besides, how can you NOT have a game from 2017? This team became relevant again, and the McVay era of winning and having a winning culture had arrived.

If I could add a #5 to the list, I would add the playoff win over the Cowboys in 2018. McVay made his bones with his innovative passing game, yet in this one, was able to find an exploit a weakness in the Cowboys run D. The result? The Rams used the running game and pounded the Cowboys D like a $2 hooker on military payday. They were ranked something like 5th against the run coming in, but they couldn't stop it at all no matter how much we telegraphed it. Total physical dominance.

All 4 of those games were great but certainly not the "only 4". I rewatched the 2021 Wild Card Game last night. It was perhaps the most dominant win under McVay. The offense didn't have the numbers like those other games because of the defense. After 35 minutes of play Kyler Murray had 28 yards passing and OBJ had 40!!! They didn't run a play in Rams territory until after the half IIRC. McVay was eating clock with the run by the end of the first half!!! It was a spanking of epic proportion.

The NFCCG against the Saints was great but the no call kinda taints it a bit. I would change that game out with either the 2018 playoff game against the Cowboys or the 2017 game where the Rams steamrolled the Seahawks 42-7. Both of those games a very satisfying to rewatch.

I remember reading somewhere that McVay went to the team before that game to give them a pep talk, but after taking a look in their eyes, deciding they didn't need one. The results emphatically illustrate how right he was, good lord what a beatdown that was.

I like those mentioned, and also like the playoff win vs Cowboys in 2018. Gosh there's so many McVay/Rams games to like. Nice problem to have.

The BEST part for me was watching the Hawk fans stream out at half time and their news reported about...They even interviewed them. GLORIOUs

McVay's very first game was a 46 - 9 blowout of the Colts.

I thought "After all these years, do we finally have a real HC?"

He has been all too real.
