I agree that we made a mistake not going for it on fourth down.

But I also think this is one of those situations where we were going to win this game. No matter what.

Even if they called the DPI, Saints probably kick a FG with 15 seconds left. Everyone assuming the game is over doesn't make sense to me. GZ's kick would have been good from 67 - so with our season on the line, with 15 seconds left, all we needed was 25-30 yards to get to midfield to take an outlandish crack at tying the game. I think we get it either way.

Every game this clown cited the Rams ended up winning. Might want to take another look at the numbers.
THIS!!!!

I thought the goal of each game is to win and every decision he second guessed actually resulted in a win. Great coaches make decisions based on instinct along with analytics. I’d say since they F’ing WON THE GAMES, this “analyst” should stick to accounting, engineering, or micro-biology because football is apparently his “Achilles heel”.

It never should have been 4th and goal from the 1 yard line. The facemask on Goff should have resulted in a 1st and goal from the half yard line. We would have then smashed it in for a TD and a 4 point lead instead of a tie game.

Did you factor in the donkey stomp on Goff's arm after the missed face mask call?

The probability calculator is as useful as WAR is in baseball. Which is to say, it's useless. Basing an entire article off of it is similarly useless.

McVay does have an Achilles heel, and it's the same thing that cost the Falcons the Super Bowl 2 years ago. He, like Kyle Shanahan, occasionally gets caught up in his own genius hype that he goes out of his way to prove he's the smartest guy on the field, which results in some really questionable playcalls.

Hopefully, unlike Kyle, when the Rams are up 20 points in the 4th quarter in a couple of weeks, he has the good sense to hand off the ball rather than try gimmick plays and bombs.

As to the play in question - the defense was really starting to rattle the Saints. He put more faith in his D than he did CJ (Gurley he had completely forgotten about at this point). It was probably the right call in the moment, given he didn't know that Joyner was going to ensure that the team makes no effort to sign him this offseason a few plays later.

Are you sure that you're a Rams fan????? Everything that's comes out of your pie hole, is to bash McVay.

So...… the "ESPN's Win Probability (WP) mode" is another ESPN made up statistic creator kind of like the QBR rating thing...…...and yeah......we really saw it take off as a "standard". Is this another of Dilfer or was it someone else on the "I want to kiss Berman's ass" list.

Analytics says..... This guy can't even use hindsight. I think I'll trust McVay above some idiotic analytics to gauge specific situations and in game decision making. What a worthless article.

No, I speak truth. We've all seen it. Brilliant guy, but occasionally outsmarts himself. Fact. I also find it interesting you choose to say this in a post where I defend his choice in plays in the goal line situation in question.
