I thought would get Henderson involved in the jet sweeps and passing game. I probably said before that with all the weapons the Rams have it's hard to give Henderson reps.

Our backs are very important in pass pro and Henderson might not be there yet with his pass pro.
Even more so with the O-line problems. I think we will see him when/if the line starts to gel.

He's not going to play until we trust him in pass pro. The OL is too much of an issue right now.

I think the Rams are aware and careful of Todd Gurley's ego.

There are a lot of organizations and coaches who would do that. I really don't think these Rams and McVay would not use a player they think can help them win because it could hurt one of their players egos.

Our RBs are not getting very many carries. And Henderson was always going to be behind Gurley on the depth chart. I would argue that Henderson was always going to be behind Malcolm Brown as well. Brown is a very capable RB who we also just signed for decent money. Plus, Brown has more experience in this system, and is a seasoned pro as opposed to a kid straight out of college. We just aren't running the ball enough for our #3 RB to see much of any action. In the circumstances, it isn't surprising that Henderson has been a no show. It will be in interesting to see if he can manage to supplant Brown as the #2 back towards the end of the season by balling out in practice, demonstrating good pass protection, etc. But I wouldn't count on that. Brown can ball.

It is a bit frustrating though to use a decently high pick on a player - one that we traded up for no less - and see him sit on the sidelines.
I think it’s fair to say McVay implied he was going to utilize Henderson in some different schemes and spell Gurley. No I don’t have a quote to back that up. Not sure what happened there.

Who cares?
He hasn’t earned a role and the running game has been suspect. If the Rams OL was capable and the running game was churning away at 5 ypc I’m sure he would have had some shots.
It hasn’t and he hasn’t.
He was a third round pick third on the depth chart. Why would lack of production 5 games into his rookie season be a story?

Red-shirted freshman. As someone else said, I didn't see a lot of yards after contact with him in the pre-season. Although, he had one nice 26-yard sideline catch and run play as I recall.

McVay's goal is to get back to the SB, not create make-work programs for rookies. I'm sure Henderson will see action at some point, and hopefully he will be ready. It is a luxury and perhaps better for him long-term to learn on the sidelines.

Mcvay said Henderson could be asked to play this sunday.
McVay slipped up too... Saying since Todd might not go that we might need to rely on Henderson this week. Why not say Brown? Because Brown can't do what Todd & Henderson can do which is flip the field when they hit a good seam.

I was really a big fan of the pick, it usually doesn’t take long for RBs to assert.

Watching him in preseason the one thing that kept popping up. Was how easy he goes down

Not giving up yet but it’s possible we may have whiffed on this one

I felt Henderson was drafted too high. He’s not that big and yes he goes down too easily imo. His speed was great for Memphis but in the NFL everyone is fast. Whiff!

Sean McVay: There will be a time we rely on Darrell Henderson, it could be this week

Posted by Josh Alper on October 10, 2019

Todd Gurley didn’t practice with the Rams on Wednesday because of a quad injury he suffered in last Thursday’s loss to the Seahawks and head coach Sean McVay said the development “kind of caught us all off guard” because they thought it was just the “typical bumps and bruises.”

Gurley’s outlook remains up in the air, but continued absences from practice this week will raise the likelihood that he misses Sunday’s game against the 49ers. If he does, the team may give rookie Darrell Henderson his first extended playing time of the year.

Henderson was the subject of much offseason gushing after being drafted in the third round, but he’s played just two offensive snaps this season with Malcolm Brown serving as the team’s No. 2 back. McVay hinted at a lot more work than that in the event Gurley does not play.

“Fortunately for us, we’ve got some depth at that position,” McVay said, via the Orange County Register. “We’ve talked about it, whether it’s this week, at some point, the confidence we have in Malcolm. There’s also going to be a time that we’re going to rely on Darrell Henderson. It might end up being this week.”

The Rams are in need of a win after losing two straight and the push to get one might wind up doubling as a coming out party for the rookie.

Yeah he didn't really get tackled too often with the holes he had at Memphis lol. That line did a great job of opening massive seams for him. So that might be part of his transition.

What I like about him is he can be out there in the pass game too, or flip the field for you with his speed if he gets a seam. So looking forward to seeing how he looks and I hope he makes the most of the opportunity if he gets it.

There was a lot of hype about Henderson on here a few months back.
Hope he's fired up.
More happy than ever we kept Brown.
