I do hope Tyler Johnson makes the team. I loved him coming out of Minnesota. Now all that’s left for the Rams to do is trade Atwell to the Browns for Jaelon Darden and a pick; he’s a fantastic returner with burner speed.

I "too" fear for Tutu's safety at his size.
But Sean McVay has a reputation as a schemer for good reason.
A fly or pattern running to the sidelines or a corner angling away from safety collision is a safe route for him and still takes at least one DB out of the run fit or pass defense.
Let's see what the two of them come up with.

I dunno I read this a lot and then I think of Desean Jackson who enjoyed a long career and he's about the same size as Atwell.
Seemed like most DBs gave D. Jax so much space that when he caught the ball he was never hit that hard.
Hopefully Mr. Tutu can enjoy the same amount of respect and success.

Let's keep things in proportion. At best Tutu gets, 7-10 situational snaps a game. So...
He's really the least of our problems. The smallest of our concerns. The lightest of our woes.
Sending Van and Tutu on limited patterns outside (deep and comeback routes) would force teams to either leave them one on one which, I think with their speed one would win fairly often OR we allow Kupp, Higbee and Akers to FEAST in the middle of the field.
Its being reported that Tutu has been making some nice "hands" catches in traffic. That bodes well if he wants the quarterback to trust him. We all remember the diminutive Tavon Austin. Not fondly either. I think Tutu has better receiving skills than Austin. I do remember a couple times he had some nice hands catches last season. Gave me hope that maybe he can be more than just a downfield guy. We'll see how that goes.

Everyone knew it was a lousy pick. If he couldn’t produce in his second year he should have been a 5th or later.

Atwell is going to be behind Nacua for one really important reason. Puka gives the Rams positional flexibility that Atwell doesn't. Puka can run jet sweeps, he can block, but most of all he can play all 3 WR positions should Jefferson or Kupp be out. Atwell is strictly a Y and Z receiver who isn't going to provide any blocking. Puka plays like a fast TE and can threaten all 3 levels.
Atwell is going to be a good rotational player at Y and Z but unless someone is hurt IMO that is the limit of his abilities which is enough.
Atwell needs to nail the return specialist to help his cause. Xavier Smith is basically the same height as Atwell and equally fast. He also has experience returning kicks. If Smith flashes as a receiver, Atwell will have competition especially if Smith going to return kicks.

Why only 7 - 10 snaps? How many did Desean Jackson get per game? So why couldn't Atwell do the same?
Look both players came from major colleges, where both taken in the 2nd round and are about the same size and speed.
I don't know why D. Jax couldn't be the comp for T. Atwell.

Sunk costs are sunk. Rams fans should be rooting for Atwell to be a deep threat that can make nice catches due to his ability to track and having good hands. Versus comparing him to 2nd round All Pro picks that hit. It’s a tired and unproductive take. It ain’t Tutus fault he was selected in the 2nd round but there is a chance he is a decent weapon going forward. My recommendation is to Accentuate the positive and move on.
Djax was considered a WR1 most of his career. Tutu has not shown that capability at all.
Also Tutu is considerably smaller than DJax and not as quick, although he may be as fast.
Look, I want him to succeed too but it is what it is.
Sometimes it takes a while for "the light" to come on...so we'll see. Atwell has good speed and good tools.

I remember many on here were so disappointed when D'Wayne Eskridge went 1 pick before we drafted TuTu. So far as bad as TuTu's stats have been they are great in comparison to Eskridge's and D'Wayne's 2023 season is off to a turrible start.
