Re: Scouting the Texans

Couple of things;

I think the Rams have to stick to the run and run right at Watt vs. Houston. If you want to help nuetralize a player who uses speed and energy to make plays get physical with him. He may split a double team and make some good plays vs. the run but the benefit of making him fight a lot of double teams will show up in the second half and help the Rams deal with the passrush, at least in theory.
With a QB that is struggling with turnovers as much as Schuab is I would expect a major dose of Foster. The Rams absolutly have to content at the line of scrimmage if they are to have a shot vs. Houston. I believe they can but they will have to maintain it all day long. Brockers and Langford may be the key to this game.

Actually I disagree - I think Quinn and Long are more important this week in the run game then the DT's. Not saying they're not critical, it's just that the Texans are known for that stretch play, which puts a lot of pressure on the De's...and I don't think I need to elaborate on how Quinn has been at holding his gap

We all know that once we're talking about a poster - instead of about football - that the participants need to bow out.

Understood.

Jerry, I apologize for getting personal.

You are 100% correct and I stand corrected. The Texans do run that stretch play left and right quite a bit, it is their favorite run play. Forgot that.
Well then, I would think maybe we see more Sims in for Quinn this week.

Re: Scouting the Texans

I know that Quinn had been labeled a "one trick pony" since his rookie year but I, for one, see great progress in his game. He has learned an inside move on the pass rush (displayed it with great effectiveness yesterday) and has become, IMO, much more stout against the run.

oh i agree - but as far as the line goes, he's still by far the biggest liability and has me worried going up against Duane brown

I expect you were right that we will see more of E. Sims this week but maybe Mr. Brown should be a bit worried by RQ's quickness as well?

possibly but i do doubt ti. Brown has been one of the top LT's the past 2 years - only better ones have been Jason Peter's year in Phillie and of course, the consistent joe Thomas.

They run Left A LOT - because they trust their LT, and I expect it even more because of quinn

Re: Scouting the Texans

Just saying, we get destroyed by teams that lose quite hard the game before for some reason :(

The jags

exactly

every week someone plays a team that comes off a loss and holds their own

we are no different - and i personally think that "oh they were pissed thats why we lost" is bull shit cop out... we're not playing mary poppins anytime soon.. so hit the film room, study, and execute non hernandez style on the field

I doubt the niners said "oh we better be afraid of the Rams, they're gonna be pissed after losing to dallas"

That's cool and thanks for posting this.

I've posted with Jrry many years and while he doesn't need me to back him, I'll do it anyway. When he joined he msg'd me; "I hope you guys don't mind me speaking my mind." Or something like that.

At the end of the day; a LOT of us roll with emotion on game day. Myself included! But, it's a different kind of critique... if that makes any sense?

We're all trying to figure this team out. I hope it gets easier! :lmao:

But!... Throwing on my moderator hat: we all need to get more "forward focused". We need to protect this safe haven from what other boards fall victim too.

Yep. Myself and had squashed it. We're all good.

Re: Scouting the Texans

Texans are very beatable.....they have solid and great all pros but they lack solid Qb play. The cb's better be playing aggressive.

Re: Scouting the Texans

Well w/ Owen Daniels out, Matt Schaub loses his safety valve.

Bad news is they are still loaded.

Re: Scouting the Texans

STATEMENT GAME.

And the first numbnut to post, "Derp, yeah, we're gonna state how bad we are" is going to get one of his Ram Cards pulled. And just so you know, you only have six of those and they have to last you the rest of your life. So, you know, just be wise with your decisions.

Booyah.

Re: Scouting the Texans

We need this Dub baby.. And we need Dallas to win.
We are due for a break out game from Quinn and Long..

Hoping for the best and expecting the worse. But it's so dam
Hard to not be optimistic lol..

Re: Scouting the Texans

Texans secondary can be exposed if Schotty calls agressive plays. Kareem Jackson can be beat.

Agreed Iced. The stretch plays they love to run in Houston will demand great discipline by Quinn and Long on the edges, as well as the CBs. More importantly Foster and Tate love to look for the cutback once they get the defense flowing one way, so Quinn and Long need to stay home. Quinn has made great strides in his run D this year, but still needs to work on consistency. Our defenders also need to wrap up ballcarriers instead of throwing their body at them or going for the strip. Foster & Tate will make you pay if you don't tackle, and so in Andre.

Make no mistake though, this game will be won in the trenches. The 2 games we've won, we've kept Sam relatively clean, the 3 losses...not so much. The blowout losses (DAL & SF), their OL blew us off the LOS consistently in the run game. It's hard to limit a run game, when the ballcarrier get first contact at 5 yards. Pass rush needs to force Schaub into more mistakes. I'd rather see the defenders being a little over aggresive, then waiting for the turnover. Force the issue.

Can't have ST penalties. They affect field position way too much. It's hard to consistently drive 80-90 yards. Shortening the field is something good teams find a way to do.
