Really, really, REALLY...dont understand the folks that think Goff's any good.
11 TDs 2 Ints in the last 5 games with Josh Reynolds as Number 1 and a rookie Brown as number 2 without Hockenson and his all pro center and left tackle as not being any good.

Man - you are harsh

Oh you mean after the season was OVER already? Let's see Goff pull out say, 2 wins in the first 5 games of a season with the Lions before we proclaim him as good.

He almost did last season when he got them leads in the last minute and the Detroit defense lost the game for them

And I consider all games critical when the teams they are playing are fighting for a playoff spot (except the last game against the Packers -I will give you that one).

And just to add - I have already stated that right now I consider Goff anywhere in the 11 to 20 range - which can range from Good to Below Average.

There are a lot of QBs that I would not trade Goff for but I would also not trade them for Goff.

You are basically getting QBs that have flaws in that range. Which one is worse - well everyone has their own personal feelings on that.

I'm willing to give JG the benefit of the doubt. Actually there's nothing more I'd like to see than the Lions beating the Packers and keeping Green Bay from the coveted 1-seed. For me he's an 11-20 Quarterback who's closer to the bottom of that pile (right now). Let's see if he can climb the ranks. I still say he's headed to backup-ville soon.

I like a couple other people think Detroit is going to surprise people this year.

I have been saying 7 wins but I also would not be surprised if they get 10 or more.

The success of an outside zone run play is predicated upon the discipline or lack thereof of the defensive front 7. If they stay disciplined and cover the gaps then the play gets stuffed. If the D loses gap control the RB should break it open. Knowing McVay's run attack was almost exclusively outside zone, the Pats simply went to a 6 man front.

That is why since 2018 McVay has tried to develop an inside run game. It's why for years I said they needed a gap blocked run scheme. McVay has tried to do that with a power scheme. The problem is Sean continues to try to pull an OL, TE or even WR as the lead blocker. WTF!! Just fucking go with a real lead blocker in a FB. Play action will be even better. Stafford will still have 4 receivers, 2 WRs, TE, RB and even a 5th in the FB who is often dropped by the coverage.

If McVay is really interested in playing a down and dirty game then run inside with a damn FB. But Sean is into eye candy deception not down and dirty. Why do you think so many of the Niners inside runs are led by a FB. That is what makes them so hard to stop. A FB is generally bigger than a SS and is a better matchup with a MIKE. Maybe they have one in Rodger Carter who is listed as a TE. He's a good blocker with good hands as a receiver.

The Bengals used that 6 man front as well knowing McVay's penchant to play an outside zone run game. So you counter with a power attack with a FB. If the FB makes his block it springs Akers into the 5 man secondary which will be spread out. All the Rams have to do is to have success once and the Rams will never see that 6 man front again.

I couldn't possibly agree with this post any more than I do. McVay is a great coach, but he still relies too much on deception and misdirection in the run game, especially on the inside, which too often leads to our backs getting stuffed before they even get to the LOS. Sometimes it's just about brute force and attitude, and especially so with running inside.

I really wish he would get a FB like you suggest. Hell, Kyle Shanahan has been able to hide Jimmy G behind a stout inside run game with a FB and has made the 9ers relevant with a very mediocre QB. I realize we are much, much better off in the QB dept., but it would still be great to add another dimension to an already potent offense. And while I love the stuff of legend that Stafford did in leading us on that final drive in the Super Bowl, can you imagine where that game would have been had we been able to consistently run inside on the Bengals? Not close at all.

I think there was a video by someone who stated that McVay for 3 quarters stayed with the same run game plan that was consistently being stuffed by the Bengals due to their defensive alignment.

It was stated that running a different play would beat that style and that McVay finally went to that running style in the 4th qtr and that's when we started getting decent gains out of our running backs.

I think McVay sometimes gets stubborn in his play calling and won't change up until the 4th qtr even if it isn't working at all in the first 3 quarters. That's what happened in the SB on our running game. Too bad OBJ went down because everything in our passing game was working up to that point.

He drafted a FB in '17. Dude didn't make the team and I don't think he's even tried since...

Yeah, I remember that too. He should have tried since though. I'm sure he could get a decent FB if he put his mind to it.
