It would help for Sammy to have a long talk with Isaac Bruce. Bruce was probably the most complete receiver the Horns have had to date. Torry had better hands but that's it. Isaac blocked better (with a personal best of fourteen! pancake blocks in a single game), ran better routes (one of those rare individuals capable of making 90-degree cuts at full speed), was absolutely superb as a decoy (just flat out selling the defenders dead wrong on the idea he was getting the ball with the urgency he made running his decoy routes), and would absolutely suck it up and absorb huge blows on must-catch balls. The willingness to play every down as though it was his last was an Isaac staple. If Sammy does that consistently, defenders will never know when the ball is coming his way. By half-assing his routes when he knows he is not the primary recipient, Sammy is actually tipping the defense off that (1) he's not getting the ball, and (2) the current play is probably not even a pass play.
