Sam Bradford willing to bet on himself, ride out current contract

Sam's got talent & I see why he'd bet on himself...like @-X- says, dude had shit around him most of his pro career......Now for my real question, when does this bet get into the sportsbook...no, no, I'm not a sadist...well, @LesBaker thinks I'm a glutton for punishment but thats another story....No, no...how about under/over games played...and to make it even more interesting, add in the preseason....Just a thought...

Huh? 58% completion percentage. 79.3 QB rating. 38 picks in 49 games. I honestly don’t get where people are creating this illusion that Bradford was this stud in the NFL before he blew out his ACL twice. This guy was AVERAGE AT BEST and THEN he got hurt twice.

It kind of irritates me when people question whether or nor he earned his first contract..He did everything that was asked of him...He played when he could, went through rehab when he was hurt and stood on the sidelines with a clipboard when that's all he could do...There were two signatures on his contract and only one of them was his...I'm really glad the trade was made, I just get a little irritated over the earned his money thing...

Maybe it's just me, but when I first heard this announcement about Bradford, the first thought that occurred to me was that (if) he doesn't play well this season or can't stay healthy, he might quit. Obviously we're seeing more players look at their health and future and say the heck with it. Bradford has a good chunk of 78 million reasons to think the same way and after what he's been through since his sophomore year in college, he just might say, enough is enough.

Naturally, if he succeeds this season, he rolls all sevens and cashes in once again. One thing we've got to admit about this young man, he sure knows how to make a buck in this business... with a little luck of course. I understand his pride and character, but looking back, it's been a frustrating and disastrous 7 year period over all.

I wonder if people who say these things subscribe to the following:

Peyton Manning would still put up 4k yards and 40 TDS even if his supporting cast was the West Panama High School Banana Slugs JV team's second string offense.

Or.

Kurt Warner would still have won a Super Bowl with Cadillac Williams, Brandon Gibson, Danny Amendola and Mike Hoomanawanui as his go-to guys.

And STFU with that strawman about people allegedly saying Bradford is a "stud". All anyone who objectively analyzes his game has said is, his developent has been atrocious and his supporting cast is everyone else's second team right now - and in some cases out of football entirely.

Is he great? Probably not, but that's because he's always getting injured and he never really had the opportunity to showcase his talents or have an offense around him that could actually inflate his stats.

We saw him with Clayton, Lloyd and Alexander. He looked like a legit starting QB. And we also saw him with Gibson, Pettis, Gilyard, Salas, Smith, Fells and Onobun. You know, the guys who are currently ripping the league to shreds.

Interesting thought... if I may, let me take it one step further...

Probably just because of his natural demeanor (calm and laid back pretty much), I always wondered about his true passion for the game. I like him, but I just never got the impression he was crazy nuts about the game.

If my suspicions were accurate (not that passionate), then yeah, he'd be gone.

While I had the same perception of Bradford, I wonder how Rams fans would have reacted had he torn his ACL while celebrating on the field after scoring a TD or winning a game? Lamarr Houston, Stephen Tulloch had that unfortunate experience.

A lack of snarling and wildly carrying about doesn't directly mean that a person lacks passion for the game though.

This is no more obvious in the transition for the Steelers from Cowher to Tomlin. Cowher screamed yelled and passioned his way to a Super Bowl, Tomlin however won one with precision and calmness after people also questioning if he had a passion for the sport.

I know, not necessarily defending Bradford, just that calm guys can also be very passionate and love the game.

I can't really defend Bradford, as he has a lot to prove and he brought most of it onto himself.

But I do have to say, I think his wish to come back after the second ACL proves he likes the game just a smidgen. Especially when many people were telling him he might as well retire and save himself from adding onto even more complications that he'll no doubt have when he gets older.

Living amongst Philly fans, I have to say that this is the impression that I get too. Most of my Eagle buds were all silently waiting for "the big trade" where they moved up for Mariota. Not sure if it was thinking that Bradford would bring back more value, or if Mariota was going to be available later than pick #2 or combination of the 2.

He's Philly's issue now and I dont know how Id feel if I was a fan of theirs. Is it a good thing or bad that he wont re-sign?

I guess it was a safe enough gamble. Foles is healthier but Bradford has the quicker more accurate release. Both are free agents at the end of the season.

I'm with KF, Vegas, and others. I'm still a Bradford fan. If you don't see his talent I can't say anything to change that.

But if he stays healthy, he will be a star in Philly.

That said; we had to do the trade. This team has lost 2 consecutive seasons with his injuries. A 3rd would be unpalatable. It's philly's turn to take the risk... And perhaps reap the reward.

Is it really betting when you've already hit the jackpot with your first contract? He can do whatever he wants and at this point in his career why not play this year out and be in control of his destiny for the most part. It's not like he's made 7th round pick money or anything.

It's not advantageous for him to sign a deal today or tomorrow. If he has an alright year 3,500 plus yards, 20 TD's to 13 INT, his representation may be able to get him a big deal because people are overpaying for competent QB play right now.

I didn't realize that Gramatica went down in the 1st Quarter. I guess it's been long enough that we can all laugh about this. The fact that these were the first points of the game just and 7 minutes and 15 seconds into an hour long game makes it a little bit more funny. Every time I've watched this particular injury up to this point, I just assumed that he had made the game winning field goal when in reality he jumped enthusiastically after making a relatively routine 43 yard field goal just minutes into the game.
