Apples and oranges. In college you have wideouts open by 10 yards it's pitch and catch. In the NFL guys are usually not open, so you have to be able to get through 3 to 4 guys quickly in progression to be a starting QB. Some teams have better lines too of course, but the 2 second thing is sort of a standard and a lot of teams do that to their QBs in camps.

The 2017 and 2018 Rams had guys wide open all over the place. Then last year, our Oline fell apart and we had some issues.

I was so excited when the Rams picked Sam. But , he had a rough start with some lousy coaches and no targets to throw too.

I would have liked to see if he would have produced in a better situation. Checkdown coach extrodinaire Shurmur and Spags were about as bad an intro to NFL football as you could get. Then you get Fisher with his 1930’s offense who was allergic to receivers and it’s known wonder Sam didn’t stand a chance.

What he also had was a series of limited OCs

Saying they were limited is quite generous if you ask me. And a big part of his checkdown problem was that he was coached to do so and it became a habit he couldn't break.

Nobody know what Sam would have done had he come into the NFL in a good situation. But I feel pretty confident saying he came into as bad a situation as a QB could have considering his coaches (both HCs and OCs) and supporting casts. He didn't stand a chance.

I would say goff came into a worse situation. Fucking bore us as his oc and Weiner as his qb coach. Snead must have been holding his breath the whole season hoping goff wouldn't be ruined being exposed to such rubbish for a full season.

I would agree, although thankfully that was rectified after one season and now he has one of the best situations. But had we continued with Fisher and whatever lousy OC Fisher would have had, Goff may have well busted.

Did anyone watch HBO's show? I watched it and Weiner was an absolute horrible QB coach that I could see. His meetings in the room were just a farce.

And I have said many times on here that Boras was absolutely the worst OC in the history of the NFL.

Never saw a playbook before where all 5 receivers would consistently stay within 10 yards or less from the line of scrimmage on each pass play. It was a complete joke. I went back and counted during the first half of each game the percentage of times that happened when Boras was the OC and couldn't believe it was more than 50 percent of the pass plays that happened.

Goff didn't have a chance those days.
